For Carole (MckMain)

Yippee!! You did it!!!!!!!

Hey Carole!!!

Just got got on line and read your post!!

Congratulations on completing the run!! It sounds like it was extremely challenging and you did it! I am so happy for you!

I hope that you are enjoying a well deserved rest today.. are you treating yourself to a decadent snack and maybe a cheesy movie and/or trashy novel as part of the recup??

Best Wishes!! Lynn M.

RE: Yippee!! You did it!!!!!!!

Brandi...thanks!! 5 miles is great. For 50K you really have to train your body to get to that mileage. I was running with people that do 100 milers....!!! I cannot even imagine that!

Thanks too dmd...a 50K is around 31 miles, some of the courses differ a bit.

Lynn...thanks so much! Yes the course was very challenging, downright brutal in areas, but I had a good time. I had a great day of resting yesterday, watched some TV, took a nap....was a nice day....:)...Carole

Thanks Beverly....well, its the 2nd day and my quads and hams are still sore. So...no lower body work for me today!! Not even sure when I'll run. Other than that I am hapy about the run and it was fun....:)...Carole

Wow, Carole, that is so awesome!!! Congratulations! I posted a question for you on the daily thread and then figured there would be another thread around on this topic... I was right. ;-)

I have always wondered, though, how do you keep from throwing up if you are eating something while you are running? I can't eat within an hour or two of working out or I feel really dizzy and sick... I am wondering how this works differently with runners. I have a friend who does those century bike rides and he said the hardest part for him is forcing himself to eat enough bars and things for energy.

Cheers,
Marie

Thanks Marie...:)....about the only thing I can eat while actually running is a gel of some sort. In runs like this 50K they have 7 or 8 aid stations with alot of different type of goodies. They fill your bottles and you usually stop and eat whatever you are used to. For me its usually cooked potatoes with salt and maybe jelly bellys or nuts. I don't eat alot just usually have something at every aid station. Ultra running is alot different than any other running as you do walk alot anyway. I know this time, near the end I was not hungry at all and it was hard to force something down. I might have had a bit more energy if I would have eaten more. Sometimes it can be quite and experiment...:)...Carole
