Food Question For Cathe

Cathe,

I know that the "clean eating" thing has been a source of questions for many of us, and I figure I probably make it much more difficult than it needs to be, but I still struggle with it. How often do you eat bread? Do you stick to a certain type? I'm curious about this because I recently have started paying close attention to what I eat, and I have really been eating alot of bread without evening knowing it. Not alot of white bread mind you - I've crossed over to whole wheat, but I wonder if it's something that's inhibiting my progress.

:)

Hi Reese! I try to cut back on starches and breads but I don't think you have to totally cut them out. You have already switched from white to wheat which is good but if you are questioning yourself then you may want to consider switching from wheat to another whole grain.

Many people have wheat allergies which could cause bloating and other issues. I'm of course not saying this is the case for you, just offering some food (literally, wink) for thought since you mentioned you eat wheat. When I was being tested for a food allergy a while back my nutritionist suggested I use spelt bread in place of wheat. While it turned out I didn't have an allergy to wheat, I really grew to love the taste of Spelt bread. Spelt (not to be confused with oats or wheat), is a whole grain flour and great for those who want to eat good, tasty whole grain products.

Again, you may be just fine with wheat but wanted you to be aware of options.

Back to your question....I eat small servings of whole grain brown rice, sweet potatoes, and occasional white potatoes for starches. White breads and rolls and pastas are usually enjoyed on special occasions.....like tomorrow's Thanksgiving feast :9

Hope this helps!

Hi Cathe:

I'm sorry for all the questions today. This one I've been pondering about but haven't been quite sure how to phrase it.

I'm now sticking to clean foods with no added sugar or processed fats. The only carbohydrates I eat are a whole grain/soy protein cereal and a 100% whole grain pasta. The rest are fruits, veggies, good fats, etc. The lack of meat is because I'm vegetarian. I won't touch processed carbs or anything with sugars added. Just looking makes me fat! :7 I understand you use discretion in giving out diet information, but would you personally feel what I've outlined is okay for a diet coinciding with a fitness lifestyle? Just curious for any tips!

Thank you :)
Christine
