I finally have my own barbell!! I feel like I've joined some cool crowd at school, LOL.

So I did PLB the other day for the first time, and I must not have used enough weight because I barely felt it in my legs. (The stability ball segments, I felt. Those were crazy!)

I'll use more weight next time, but the part of my neck/upper back where I rested the bar was sore like it had a bruise. Am I doing something wrong? Any suggestions?

Thanks!!!

In alot of Cathe's workouts you will see here and the crew using a bar pad which lays against the back of their neck. I have used a thick towel rolled up myself. I know some here used weighted vests so they don't have to have so much weight on the barbell. I use a weightlifing belt and add ankle weights when I want to increase the amount....:)...Carole

First, make sure that the barbell is not on your NECK, but on the trapezius muscle. It's easy to get a bruise if you rest the bar on one of the vertebra. As Carole stated, a bar pad or a towel (I used to just drape one around my neck when I was working out heavy in a gym, and that helped).

I knew there was a muscle there somewhere...:)...Thanks Kathryn...:)...Carole

Thanks for the pointers! It feels like one of my vertebrae (sp?) is what is bruised, so I think I'll try again to get it kind of lower and sitting on a muscle instead. I'll also have a towel handy!! I mean a second towel, as I need to have a sweat towel nearby for all of her workouts... ick! LOL thanks again!!
