Flooring options

Cathlete
We are in the process of building a new home and I am at the point where I need to select a floor material for my exercise room. This room will be on our lower level and whatever I put down will be on top of concrete. I am hoping that someone here will have some experience with this and can suggest some possible options that will be kind to my 40 year old knees;-)

TIA,
Cassie Fishbein

Hi Cassie there is a great article SNM wrote about this. You may have to do a search under the Ask Cathe thread for flooring. If you can't find it, I'll post it for you.
It's a continuing process.....

Thanks so much! I have been doing some research on this for the last few months and have been totally unsuccessful. This is just what I needed:)

Cassie & Christie ~

I spent my lunch break yesterday searching for answers to the very same question Christie had! Cassie, thank you so much for locating and passing along the link re: aerobics flooring. I'm going to forward it to my DH so we can get to work on our exercise room in our new home!

I LOVE CATHE's FORUM! And I appreciate both of you, too! Thanks!

~ Kim

P.S. I told him I wanted the pillars and walls like Cathe's set so I could really get "in the zone"!

Have a super day!

Don't forget those statues. LOL!

Hi Kim,

I just wanted to say that Christie is the hero here! I merely asked the question and she provided the answer:)

Enjoy your new room. Is your hubby going to go for the pillars?!

Hi Cassie,

I'm glad that you posted this. I was mulling over asking this question. I have read through all the info on aerobics floors that Cathe has posted on the home page, along with some of the older threads. I'm still confused. I think I have decided to go with wonder mats. I'm waiting on the samples.

Wonder mats are 2'x2' puzzel mats. I am leaning toward the sports series which are 1 inch thick and are reversible. The installation seems simple, just lay it in place and interlock pieces.

I wanted a wood floor but it dosen't seem like a good choice for gym equipment and weights. I use this room for cardio, weights, and flexibility workouts. If anyone has any helpful information please add it to this post.

I would really appreciate any input, since this is a big investment,

I'm glad it helped ladies. I read through this a few months back and ended up ordering the bounceee tiles from ironcompany. He had the best price of all the manufacturers. I searched for aerobic flooring on google and a few people had those tiles, but they were really expensive. I love the floor, at first it felt a slippery because it was new but after about 4 workouts it was broke in. I love it . I rarely ever have knee pain from jumping anymore.
It's a continuing process.....

Did you put the bounceee tiles on top of a cement basement floor? I'm concerned about hi-impact i.e., tuck jumps, etc.

I have the 2'X 2' puzzle mats on top of indoor/outdoor carpet, on top of cement basement floor. Until this last Christmas, I've been doing high impact Cathe aerobics on the cement floor. Since my puzzle mats are on carpet (and I have a lot of them) I don't have trouble with them slipping. Others have posted that they had problems with the puzzle mats slipping.

Good luck.

I have puzzle mats over concrete in purple and hot pink that covers a 10' x 12' area. Under the mats I have one of those anti-slip pads like you would put under an area rug.

My knees no longer bother me as they did when I was exercising on carpet over concrete.
