FLOOR LEGS....

Can someone recommend a good floor-only leg workout that is similar in intensity to the floor work on Cathe's PS legs or Karen Voight's Great Weighted Workout. And, no FIRM, please, something about the format just isnt for me. Thanks!

:) Stacy

Hi Stacy,

I have Janis Saffell's 'Brand New Butt and More' and find that it provides a really good leg workout, although not all floorwork. It includes standing and floor and she shows you some exercises that incorporate more than one muscle at a time - many of them will help improve your core strength. At first it didn't seem too hard but by the end I was sweating like crazy! If you add ankle weights it makes it much more intense. I also use heavier dumbells than Janis uses. It might be worth a try if you can stand going from Cathe's down-to-earth familiarity to Janis's... well, giggliness.

Btw, I too am a big fan of the floorwork in Karen's GWW.

I was going to recommend Karen Voight Great Weighted Workout until I finished your post. I agree - get the Janis Saffel workout - I prefer floor workout and the floor workout on that tape is deceptively challenging. When I'm done with that workout, I hurt in muscles I didn't know I had. Also, I am not a fan of standing work but the standing work on that tape is awsome.

May I suggest Kathy Smith's "Secrets of a Great Lower Body" - although it too has standing as well as floor work, I love the exercises! I don't have the video anymore, but I wrote the whole sequence down, and do the long-legged ankle-weight work at least once a week.

Hi Stacy-
If you are looking for a great floor workout, try the Original Buns of Steel.
It is definitely old, and a little out of date. (the music sounds like it was pulled off a porno soundtrack) but it still is one of the hardest floor workouts I have found, including Cathe's from PS.. The outer thigh work is absolutely killer. There is no standing legwork, it is all floor work. You could probably find it for a pretty good price considering how old it is.

Good luck!!

Lynn

I totally agree with Lynn about the Original Buns of Steel. It is definitely out of date (we're talking flourescent pink legwarmers and aqua headbands), but it is killer--and it's all floorwork. I have not done it in eons, but maybe I will considering how stubborn my legs are at shaping up.

There is also a good floorwork section at the end of the Original Tae Bo-Advanced workout. It is very difficult to finish with proper form. In fact, I think I only finished it a few times without wimping out.

Good Luck!

Hi and thanks for all of your suggestions! I think I'll start with the original Buns of Steel first only b/c I'm impatient and cheap and I have a feeling I'll be able to find this one at the store. I'll let you know what my legs think of it!

Stacy

P.S. How does Brand New Butt & More compare to Janis' other "butt" tape....what is the "more"?? More exercises, more intense, more body parts worked????

Hi Stacy,

I've never tried Janis's other Butt tape so I can't help you there, sorry. I do think that the original Butt tape is quite a bit shorter than the "And More" tape though. I'd like to know the differences too... anyone?
