Hi Cathe, how are you???

What do you know about faxseed??? Do you take it or recommed it??? I've been wanting to try it but not sure of how much or if it's worthwhile.

Your new fan from Toronto!!

I am not Cathe but I am taking Flaxseeds every morning since January. I used to drink 10 mugs (almost two pots) of coffee a day. The day I started using the Flaxseeds I cut down to 4 mugs and had no signs of withdrawl. I am getting up refreshed at 4 am to work out and even if the alarm is not set, I just wake up. My cravings for junkfood and especially greasy foods are gone. There are some good threads on flaxsees at www.fitprime.com.

I put three tablespoons of flaxseeds, ground up, in a glass of juice every morning.

Hi Katerchen, thank you so much for your input on the flaxseed. Much appreciated.

You may also want to check the website askdrsears.com. He is a pediatrician and highly recommends flax (seed, oil, meal etc). This is good stuff. It is high in omega 3 fatty acids.

Hi kristieschultz

Wow, askdrsears website is amazing. So much information. I got my answer regarding flaxseed, I will definitely continue to take 3 tsp every morning with my orange juice.

Thank you so much for the information.

Hi Maria! Nice to meet you! I actually don't use or get involved with supplements so I am glad others have offered some input for you. Take Care:)!

Hi Maria, I'm from Toronto too!!

I have been putting 3 tablespoons of flaxseed in my morning protein shake, and it really does help to keep you...er...regular. But a warning: it is really high in calories! I realised that my morning shake and cereal was adding up to about 800 calories so I now only use 1 Tablespoon. It is good for you, and it's good fat and all that, but quite caloric, like most seeds/nuts are.

I have a question for the flaxseed folks out there in Cathe-Land...
What about using flaxseed OIL (as opposed to the "seeds") in a morning shake/drink? Does it have the same effects?
I just recently returned to working (as a neonatal ICU nurse) after two years of disability off-time post-knee injury. I am doing three twelve-hour shifts a week, and since I just started, I have expected some adjustment problems in the early weeks. Though I seem to awaken without difficulty, and function alertly throughout the long day, I am finding that the next day I am wiped out! Enough so that I am putting exercise on the back burner as well, which I am loathe to do. Does flax seed/oil actually have energy gains tied to its use?
I purchased some oil from GNC a few weeks ago, but haven't started taking it yet because I wanted to find out more about it, but just haven't had the time to sit down and look it up. (My orientation at the start of this job was two solid weeks of Monday thru Friday daytime hours, and this 12-hour shift, three days a week gal just ain't used to that kind of abuse!LOL)
Thanks for any anectdotal advice anyone here can impart.
Hugs,
Lynn Finn

The oil is good, but there are more nutrients in the freshly ground seed because of course, more components are left in and it is less processed. And you lose all the fiber if you just use oil.
