Fit 40's week of March 8th

Murphy

Cathlete
:p

I did not see another thread so I went ahead. I am very proud of myself. I attempted to exercise Saturday w/ Tracie Long and Sunday with Cathe. Both days started out well and then, in the middle, my "assistants" came to help and that was the end of that. I was annoyed at first but then I decided I should enjoy this time playing with them because I won't get it back. Today is a Wii day, an island run. BTW, the Cathe I did (or tried to do) was the Circuit Blast. I avoided it b/c there was a step in the picture, but I really liked it. I am sorry I waited so long - why didn't you guys tell me? ;-)

Hi to everyone.

Murphy

Hi girls! Another Monday! I am off for 2 weeks now, so it is all good! Today was GS C&T, then 30/30, wasn't too bad, a lot easier than 40/20! How was everyone's weekend? Mine just busy with kids stuff, had to do a cookie booth yesterday, Sat., we had a 1st communion retreat with our youngest. Murphy, I do like circuit blast, I think I have only done it once or twice tho. Sounds like you made the right choice with your little ones. It goes sooo fast, can't believe my oldest are in the 6th grade all ready. Hi to Lisa, Ronne, and Kathryn. Hope all is well with everyone. Mary

Hey everyone, crazy, busy day at work here today, ugh. So short and sweet.

Saturday I started P90X...OMG the pullups and pushups....I vowed to do the pushups from my toes even if I didn't do many, well, they do so many sets I swear I did about 80 overall. I have DOMS, serious DOMS. I think it was the pullups....I used their chair option to boost myself up easier but boy I think it still worked me a lot. Sunday I did 1 hr run, and today I did Rhythmic Step. Hardcore Extreme fell out of the bottom when I grabbed RS so I put it back on the top, whew, I'll look at my pile and not feel so bad since Hardcore Extreme is now off the bottom (forget the fact I didn't do it).

Sorry for lack of personals, hopefully tomorrow.....

Lisa - what do you think of P90X? DH keeps talking about it but I told him to use the STS program including the shock cardio. What do you think? I have not looked into cost and I really don't know enough about the program to make a decision. DH is a track coach but not very flexible. I don't think he will like the MMA "rolly-things" and, well, now that I think more about it, I am not sure he will like shock cardio at all. Does P90X have similar shock cardio type cardio?

Hi all

Lisa - sounds like you're back in the swing of things - that's a tough regime! Do you have a pullup bar or something?

Murph - glad to hear you're well and exercising again. What you said about your kids made me smile. You're so right. I moan at DD for leaving stuff around but then I think I'll have years after she's gone to have the perfect, tidy house! (And I bet I won't ...:p)
I'll have to try Circuit Blast, not done it yet.

Mary - Well done on sticking with the rotation. I wouldn't want to do anything after GSCT!

We had a busy weekend. DD had a gymnastics grading on Sunday morning. I think it's worse watching than doing it! Anyway, she passed so we went out for lunch to celebrate!
I had 3 days off exercise to try and rest my back and yesterday I did an hour of yoga which seems to have helped. Not sure I'm going to have time to fit anything in today. Might try some yoga before bed tonight. Taking DD to the dentist after school.

Bye for now.

Hi girls! Just finished cardio core circuit, not my favorite, so I am glad it is done! DD broke her thumb yesterday at school, spent the rest of the afternoon in Dr.'s office and going to get x-rays. Kind of irritated, the school sometimes calls for the silliest things, ie: papercut, and they don't call for this? Anyway, there is my rant! Ronne, what is a gymnastics grading? Like a tournament? Glad to hear she did well. Hope that your back feels better. I will be spending tomorrow morning in the dentist's office with my youngest! Lisa, how do you like Tony? Good for you starting, did you just get it? Murphy, does your DH have to do shock cardio? I would think he would like STS. Have a good day everyone! Hi Kathryn. Mary

Hi, girls!

I did AOS Providence this morning (I'm on a roll with the kettlebells!), and I have definitely earned a day off tomorrow!

I finally ordered Insanity... I've been on the fence about it since before it came out, but too many rave reviews enabled ;) me to make a decision about it.

I am not loving my working arrangement these days... DH is driving me nuts. And that's all I'm going to say about that!

Over the weekend I did the Pyramid Upper/Lower premix (I think it's labeled "Bonus Combo," on the bottom of the screen). I really recommend it -- it's a great full-body working (except for abs, which I threw in anyway). I get tired of doing Muscle Max and Muscle Endurance over and over!

Now DH is really sick -- with bronchitis. I wonder if those cigarettes that he thinks I don't know about had anything to do with his getting a respiratory infection....

Well, I've got to get back to work. I promised my accountant that I would make significant progress on the taxes.

Have a great day, everybody! (Sorry for lack of personals -- will catch up later!)

Wow it's hopping around here. I did the Shoulder/Arms for P90X today since I could finally put my arms over my head without my lats hurting too much :) Tony is extremely CORNY. I guess the one thing I like about it is that you do what you can and you don't feel bad because not everyone is doing every rep. Yes, it has plyo, kenpo (kickbox) and some other cardio....haven't done them yet, I think plyo is on tap for tomorrow, but if Tony is as irritating as he is during weights I don't think I'll like the cardio, will see, and let you all know. I do think it is nice to have another weight workout. I'm trying to get DH to do it (he seems to like Cathe STS weights, not cardio series), I've even caught him doing 4DS. He isn't a cardio guy, thinks if he lifts a weight a couple times a week that's good enough, and sadly his cardio when we hike is still better than mine :( My friend gave me the P90X and CLX for my old treadmill....nice!

Kathryn, I'm not going to like my working arrangement either soon. I just heard that starting 4/26 I have to drive into the office everyday....I knew it was coming.

Mary, feel free to rant, I can't believe they didn't call !

Ronne, I agree, I would do nothing more after GSCT!

Murphy, I plan on getting through all the workouts in the next couple of weeks, I'll let you know what I think. I do have to say so far it got me to do pullups and pushups, even if they were 1/2 as much as what the girl in the dvd did. But today, I noticed on shoulders/arms that I lifted more than the girl! Speaking of pushups, does anyone feel them in their chest? I feel them more in my arms/shoulders....it's like my arms tire out before anything else.

Gotta get back to work now, oh joyful day (not really, just psyching myself out)

Hi everyone

Sorry, work really busy today so no time for personals.

Did 45 mins of yoga/pilates corework. Back seems to be getting better. Might try something more demanding next week!

Had our car windscreen replaced today (a bird flew into it at the weekend). Just as he was finishing off, the guy cracked it  so he's got to come back on Monday and do it again. I did feel sorry for him!!

Should have more time to talk tomorrow!

Hi girls! Just got back from the dentist, DS was ticked at me because I made him go to school! We have our painter back, he is doing the stairwell, but that means my w/o has to wait till he's gone, I just feel kind of weird working out with someone else in the house! I will do GS legs later tho! Ronne, how funny about the window! Glad to hear about your back. Lisa, will the drive to work be long? Now you will have to get up and get dressed! I think you ended up better with that trade! Let us know about CLX. Murphy, how are you? Kathryn, is the boss treating you any better today? You are a brave girl to try Insanity! I'm kind of jealous tho! have a good day everyone! Mary

Today I just didn't feel much like exercising, but I did. P90X Plyo....my foot started hurting, that jumping does me in. I think if you like Cathe HIIT and drill type work you would like it, but Tony just doesn't have enough fun factor to keep me in it. I don't see me doing this one much, I'd just as soon do Cathe, however, I do have to say there are drills on there that are not on any Cathe dvd. They even had a guy with a prosthetic leg! I also think a man might like this better than a Cathe dvd, but again, there isn't anything there drawing me back if that makes sense. I told DH he had to try these out from a man's point of view for my 40+ group, he said, they are 60 min? that's too long.....I guess he's counting on genes to get him through old age :)

Mary, I don't blame you, I wouldn't work out with workmen in the house and I too would have sent my kid to school after a dental appt.

Ronne, I dislike birds with a passion. A funny story though is years ago, my Dad was driving along with the windows down, felt something hit him in the side of the neck, didn't think anything about it, got home and Mom saw blood and feathers on him and that poor dumb bird was in the back window....dead. :)

I'm hoping for a slower day today....when I have to go in, it's only a 30 min commute each way, I think though since IBM is "modifying my contract" I may try to get them to add in that I only work a max of 35 hrs a week, just in case the current IBM mgmt changes (my current mgr doesn't care how much I work as long as I get the work done), but with all the changes going on I think this may be the opportunity to protect myself. They did just do a reorg, thankfully I stayed with the mgr that hired me and didn't get absorbed into the dept of the mgr that laid me off 3 yrs ago! I disliked her with a passion, very controlling. In fact, when I took a leave of absence for a year to spend time with my kids, she actually said that most people quit....uh, I didn't work there 24 yrs to up and quit and waited for the lay off I knew was coming and got a severance package it would have been stupid for me to quit.

Well, better go....

My day off...

But I'm checking in to say "hi." The boss apologized for his behavior... I'm only a little bit mollified, though. It's going to take more than that to un-ruffle my feathers.

I had to put "feathers" in there, in honor of the bird discussion! I don't like birds, either. They're such germ carriers. DH developed a condition in his eyes called "histoplasmosis." It's caused by a virus that you get from being around birds (and bats). It has caused him to develop macular degenration, lose much of his vision in one eye... so don't get me started on those rats with wings.

Ditto for Bambi -- rats with hooves. Both of my parents developed Lyme disease from the deer ticks that are widespread where they live.

Okay, enough about vermin.

Dental work? I hate it! After needed a crown replaced recently, I'm praying that I don't have to see the dentist again any time soon.

Lisa, I saw mention of your commute on FB. Books on tape -- that's what I did when I was driving three hours a day to get the kids to and from school. Are you still enjoying your job? I hope you're glad that you went back to IBM. I've heard that they treat their employees well (historically), but I don't know if they've changed with the times.... The only place you can get a guaranteed pension, healthcare, and benefits these days is working for the government.

Speaking of work, it's calling my name, so I'd better get to it.

Oh, I'll let you know how Insanity is. I'm not going to do the program; I'm just using it for cardio days. I don't want to give up my weight and kettlebell workouts, since I've finally gotten back to it after a year of back-to-back rounds of STS!

Real quick post, I am about to run out. Did another workout today, more Tracie Long. I am not sure what tomorrow holds. Sorry for the lack of personals.

Hi Everyone, unplanned rest day for me today. All the stars lined up and made it so :)

I haven't been sleeping too well at night lately (wish I knew why), anyway I was just getting back to sleep after tossing and turning for a couple hours when the phone rang.....it was work as I'm backup on call....guess the primary didn't answer, by the time I got done it was time to be up, add that to the fact that I don't want to get too sweaty today since I can't wash my hair! Why you ask? I went to the dermatologist yesterday for a skin check because i get those every year now since I had a basal cell carcinoma removed a couple years ago via Mohs surgery. Anyway, not only did she find 3 spots to freeze off, she found a couple in my head at the crown where my hair parts that she biopsied. Will see what they are, so needless to say I'm not suppposed to wash them for 24 hrs or so, they took a long time to clot up. My silly DH said when I got home that it looked like they drilled 2 holes in my head and that they took brain cells because then I misplace a kitchen utensil...finally found it this morning --- of course not where it should be :)

Kathryn, your posts are always so refreshing. RE: my job....I like the work and can't beat the money. It's going to be hard going in everyday though. Ah, I've done it before, I can do it again. IBM is an ok company these days---it's typical for a large company but it isn't the IBM I hired into 27 yrs ago. There are some better, most equivalant and some a lot worse!

Speaking of work, I better get to it....I can hardly see though, my eyes are foggy....maybe it was the valarian I took at 3:30 am thinking i would be sleeping in? A nap may be in order later today :)

Wow, I've got a lot to catch up on!

Lisa - at least that commute doesn't sound too long. Do you have to get up early though? Sounds very sensible getting your hours written in to your contract, if you can. It does sound like you work for a fairly decent company anyway, a leave of absence for a year is good.
Just saw your recent message, well you have been banking those workouts again, haven't you? Hope the day's not too hectic.

Kathryn - that's awful about your DH. My DH is a birdwatcher though so I don't think I'd still be married if I didn't show some interest :p Perhaps I should mention it to him?!
3 hours a day on the school run?! What a nightmare. I'd go mad!

Mary - did you get your workout done then? No way I would workout with someone in the house!

Murph - was that one of the new Tracie Longs? What do you think? I was looking at them on Collage and a couple look quite good. (Not that I'm buying anything at the moment!)

Well, I did KCM Body Training today, the one on the floor. Unfortunately, I don't think my back liked it very much. I'm trying to sit really upright at my desk because it hurts most when I've been sitting. Why is it not possible to stay healthy or injury-free for more than 2 weeks at a time? (Please don't tell me it's my age :()

Bye for now!

Lisa, I'm sorry to hear about the carcinoma! My father and a friend of mine have both had the Mohs procedure, where they take off tiny layers and examine them, and keep going till they come up clean. I hope you're okay. You're so fair (and you have blue eyes, don't you?)... sun really does a number on us, doesn't it.

What time did they call you? What in the world could be such an emergency at IBM that they have to wake you up in the middle of the night? I'd understand if you were a doctor on call... but sleep is precious and I don't get enough of it, either.

Murphy, how do you like the Tracie Long workouts? I used to do her Firm workouts (and liked her as an instructor), but I drifted away from the Firm after I started doing Cathe workouts.

I did Providence again. I'm doing kettlebell workouts twice a week -- trying to kick myself back into shape before I have to put on shorts again. Although over the years my shorts have become less like shorts and more like capris! :D

Not much to be done about my Casper-like legs, though... I hate the smell of fake tanner and I'm sure not going for the real thing (see aforementioned skin cancer risk)!

I've got to get back to doing the taxes... DS has a half-day today, and both kids have tomorrow off, so my work schedule is disrupted again.

Oh, and I have an afternoon doctor appointment. I hate, hate, hate going to the doctor. It is Germ World there, but I have such stomach pains lately that I'm driven by desperation and the fear of bleeding ulcers, stomach cancer, whatever...

...I think it's DH's fault. It's no coincidence that this started a couple of months ago, around the time that my only employee quit and DH started working us all day, every day... as in, weekends, evenings...

Yup, he's still in the doghouse with me. Keep begging, sweetie!

Wow ,a lot is going on. I think I missed something with the birds but I will chime in that I can go either way but don't want one as a pet. I am more of a cat person. I did abs today. I did not want to exercise but I had to do something to keep on track. We bought new furniture and now my exercise area is smaller. It is really putting a dampner on my workouts. It is harder to do some of the drills. It is also means that I have to put the step very close to the tv so that I can have room to step back or swing my leg and not hit the couch. The only option I have is to turn sideways and hope I did the dvd enough not to have to constantly look at the screen. Am I the only one this happens to?

I'm back for a second time today! Things are slow now, I'm hoping to get a nap in!

Kathryn, I do have the fair skin, but brown eyes...weird for a redhead...I guess there are a lot of weird things about me! Hope you stomach is ok and mostly I hope you find resolution....sometimes medical things can be so frustrating. The call was 5:00am which would not have been bad except for I tossed and turned from 2-4:30 and was just getting back to sleep. I think for most of my 27 yrs I've been lucky to be strictly in development programming and not be on call. I think this is only the 2nd job where I've been on call on a regular basis and this one isn't nearly as many calls as the other I was on. It's to fix any jobs that abend during the night (the jobstreams always run at night so the data is there for the morning).

My freckles help make my legs not so Casper-like, but seriously, we need to get back to light skin and hats to be in vogue....darn dermatologist gave me grief for not wearing a hat. There are 2 things I hate on my body, coats and hats, and then I really dislike closed in shoes.....I think it's the Floridian in me :)

Murphy, I think no matter what I have to constantly look at the screen (unless it's a weight workout). Sometimes if I haven't done a workout in a while some parts are all new to me again

Ronne, I'll have to rearrange my whole schedule when I drive in. It will be good that it's warm then so that I'll walk Maddy before I go to work and then I'll have to exercise after dinner. Thank goodness for this group to keep me honest. So, what's up with your back? lower part? do you stretch it good? Don't laugh, but I'm having index finger problems from using the trackpoint on the laptop....it hurts! How's that for an injury.

Well, off to hopefully catch some Zzzzzzz's.....see, one more nice thing about working at home that I'll miss....and this time it was all their fault I'm tired!

Busy beavers here today! Today was supposed to be Athletic Step, but I think I caught LIsa's plantar fascitis! My heel is not happy! I'm dragging my left side around like a hippo with a broken leg, not pretty! Lisa, hope your results from the dermatologist come back ok, I will keep you in my prayers. Sorry about the early morning wake-up call. When the phone rings then, it scares me. Enjoy your nap. (I don't like hats too much either, they look good on others!) Kathryn, how did the Dr. go today? Everything ok? Let us know. Ronne, take care of your back. Are we all falling apart? Murphy, I understand about the space issue, I work out in the living room also, if I don't put the step just so, I am kicking the couch or hitting the fire-place bench! My basement, the ceilings are too short. Have a good day. Am trying a new recipe from Sandra Lee, had to go to 2 grocery stores to find the right things, so I don't know how quick and easy it will be! Talk to you tomorrow Mary

Back from the doctor... he ordered a bunch of tests to figure out if it is pancreas, gall bladder, or stomach. Or maybe something else. He said he'll have test results tomorrow and let me know. In the meantime, he put me on a prescription acid reducer. Thanks for asking -- I'll let you know.

Lisa, the Floridian in you? That explains it all! You should be living here (or south of here), where you can get away without wearing coats (but not hats). I love coats because I hate to be cold!

I know another redhead with brown eyes: DD's 1st/2nd grade teacher. Yes, I wish that pale and pasty were in vogue. Darn that Coco Chanel for making the suntan so popular!

Murphy, that new furniture has to go! You can't have it in the way of your workouts. I've had some cramped workout areas in the past, but I made sure that I had enough room when we designed the current workout room. I even had the contractor knock down a couple of walls (thereby eliminating a useless closet) so I'd have enough cardio room.

Now when I trip over my feet and my step, I have no excuse by my own lack of coordination. But let's heap some blame on the instructors, who are making more and more workouts, it seems, that you have to do with your back to the TV! Suspect #1: Amy Bento!

Okay, I must get back to dealing with taxes. I'll check in again tomorrow. That way I'll just have to work out... and first thing in the morning (between 5:00 and 6:30) is when my stomach is least likely to hurt. It's downhill after that.

Bye!
