First Impressions NMTZ

I bought and tried No More Trouble Zones yesterday. I have to commend Jillian Michaels for having the only workout which attests to improving trouble zones, that can actually do so. I like that she states that "there is no such thing as spot reducing", and that if you want to improve an area of your body you must burn lots of calories, eat well, and tone the area with weight training. Finally! An instructor who doesn't pretend that just doing sit-ups will give you a 6-pack! I appreciate her honesty.

Having said that, I wasn't too thrilled with her personality. A little too street tough for my taste. I certainly prefer Cathe's style, but then, style doesn't mean that much to me if the WO is good.

I think this WO will give the vast majority of women what they're looking for: weight and fat loss. Jillian knows what most women want, and she delivers. But you REALLY have to work for it. At first, I thought the circuits were kind of fun. I love the combination of squats with arm work. But as time went by, I found myself wondering when the circuits would finally end. The WO is supposed to be 40 minutes long, but maybe that doesn't include the 5-minute warm-up? Anyway, I finally lost count of how many circuits there were, and then I stopped because enough was enough.

The good news is, I don't have to do the entire WO all at once. I can see doing maybe 3 circuits per day. For me, that's the only way this WO is going to be tolerable. But I do think I'll use it.

If your primary goal is weight loss, you might want to give this WO a try. It moves quickly, but I never felt that I was losing control of the dumbbells, because the dumbbells I used were relatively light. I stuck to 3,4,5 & 6 lbs. weight exclusively, and still felt the burn. But most of all, I felt the calorie burn!

I used 3lbs throughout the entire thing, and my shoulders felt like they were going to explode!

I really love her Banish Fat Boost Metabolism video! I've been adding it on to my weight workouts with Cathe, and I'm really seeing improvement! I think I've only done it three times too!

You're right too, she does have a pretty rough personality, but it works with the type of workout she does!

Whenever I do another instructors workout, I always feel like I'm cheating on Cathe! LOL, but I do love Jillian....

I just read that there are only seven circuits. It felt like about a dozen to me! And the 40 mins. does not include the warm-up. I'm going to try splitting it into two days: 3.5 circuits on Day 1 and 3.5 circuits on Day 2. That should help me to maintain my weight. On other days I plan to do WOs like Muscle Max for more substantial muscle training.

Shannon, I agree that 3 lbs. is more than enough for the shoulder work. I think I used 6 lb. dumbbells for the deadlifts and the bench press.

I like Jullian Michaels and I like her style of instructing. I have done her NMTZ and enjoyed the circuits. I do enjoy her cardio routines more than her weight lifting routines. I too really enjoy her Banish Fat Boost Metabolism workout.

Hi Nancy, . . .love, love, love your new avatar! Can I ask how this workout compares to Cathe? Is it as advanced? Thanks for the review!

I need some 6lb dumbells! That's a lot better than going from 5's to 8's!
As soon as I did these videos I had a good feeling about them, so I know I'll stick with them! This morning I did S&H legs and shoulders, and then BFBM, it was awesome! lol good thing tomorrow is my day off because I'm pretty sure I'll be sore!

Nancy, let me know what results you get after a few weeks! I'd love to know!!

Thanks, Janie. Me and my Big Salads. :p

I would say NMTZ is intermediate to advanced. However, they mention on the video that beginners can start by doing one or two circuits and then building up from there. IMO, it's as tough as a Cathe workout, but the style is very different. This WO is actually intended to raise your heart rate and keep it raised. When I do Cathe's endurance WOs I get the feeling that occasional raising of the heart rate, which does happen, is not necessarily the goal of the WO. Hope that helps.

If your cable company has exercise on demand, you can check this workout for free. As well as many others.

I'm going to do NMTZ today! Thank you Nancy for talking me into it even though you didn't.......but you did! Haha!

Sounds awesome, jh! I'm pretty sure we don't have it. But what a great idea! I hope it comes to Brooklyn soon.

I considered previewing this one by ordering from Netflix, but I was in the store, and it was $10, so I just picked it up. I think it's about $8 on Amazon, so that's another thing in its favor.

Instead of 6 lb dumbells, I use my 1 lb weighted kickbox gloves quite often to up the intensity of a cardio workout or to up the weight slightly in NMTZ. They've been one of my best fitness purchases lately.

Thanks for reviewing this!

I just did NMTZ today for the first time and I liked it! Two years ago I got her DVD set:The Biggest Winner and did not like them at ALL. In fact I gave them away and steered clear of her stuff until now. Did not like the workouts, instruction, music, any of it.

NMTZ was totally different. I really like the compound exercises, got a great workout using 3 lbs for shoulders  and triceps and 5 lbs for bicep work. There were some new exercise that I haven't done before and enjoyed her personality on the DVD. On Biggest Loser she can be so over-the-top and she was likeable and effective in this workout. I also ordered BFBM and 30 Day Shred from amazon, they were all $8 and I'm really looking forward to doing these and adding them to my Cathe and P90X workouts.

What store were you able to find it at for $10? TIA.

Maria

I would like to know also. Target has it online for $7.99 but in the store it was marked $14.99 and they refused to honor the online price. I called Target and complained. Walmart has it for $7.89 (?) with free to store shipping. I just thought I could pick it up but no. I just reserved it at my library so I could at least try it out.
