First Dance Song? (kind've long)

Sorry if this is a repeat topic or just plain cheezy but I was wondering if you remember the first song you danced to w/ your DH, DW or SO? I got into the car today and ours was playing, I haven't heard it in many years.

If you don't mind me reminiscing let me set the scene for you all :). It was late OCT/early NOV of 1996 and I was working as an Asst. Mgr. of a TCBY and also had two part time campus jobs while taking a full time schedule of classes...yes I was a busy & exhausted girl . Anywoo, I was prepping to close that evening (making waffle cones actually :D) when Ryan (my DH now) came in during his break. He was working a few doors down as a Manager of a Dominos Pizza. He had been coming in to talk to me for a few months by that time...we met in the TCBY. Since I was so busy working and with school I really wasn't into dating so we were just friends at the time. I had also just ended a 6 year relationship with my HS sweetheart so I was pretty guarded.

Well here I was in my TCBY uniform making waffle cones and he's in his Dominos garb (the radio was playing by the way) when he grabbed my hand, pulled me close and we started dancing to the song "Don't Take the Girl" by Tim McGraw. That was the night of our first kiss as well ;).

I'm making myself a little sad right now...I miss those romantic days. The last time we danced was at our wedding 6 yrs ago. I guess as time passes and life kind've gets in the way those moments have been pushed aside :(. Although I must say that maybe 12 years later romance is defined differently. DH steamcleaned the L-room and D-room yesterday and I thought that was really sweet of him :D.

Thanks for letting me share! I'd love to hear your stories :)

I was an Asst Mgr at TCBY when they first opened... about 1980-something... OMG does that date me or what???

anyway, I know what you mean about specific songs triggering memories! When I met my now DH, he played the Room for Squares CD by John Mayer on our first date, first kiss... I have since worn out 2 of those CD's and get warm fuzzies every time I hear a song from that CD... but alas, after 6 years (newly married in May '08) we have settled into "comfortable and content" with our lives! Romance is definately work these days! Sad, or maybe as you said "different" when taking out the garbage says "I love you, Honey" :)

The first song we danced to was "Love Lift Us Up Where We Belong" at someone else's wedding. We played it for our first dance at our wedding over 21 years ago. We're still very romantic 21 years and four kids later. :)

I don't remember our first dance ever, but Fallen was our first dance as husband and wife. :) Every once in a great while, I hear it on the radio ~ it's such a nice surprise.

I was married in May 08 as well!! What date? Mine was 5/25/08 :D

Our first dance was at someone else's wedding, my DH was a groomsman. My t-shirt, jeans, and flip flops redneck boyfriend was lookin' HOT in his tux, and he knew I was jealous when he had to dance with that bridesmaid. So he asked the DJ to play Brad Paisley, "She's Everything to Me." :D

At our wedding reception, we each dedicated a song to each other, rather than having one "first dance" we had two dances. He picked the same song as above, and I chose Garth Brooks, "To Make You Feel My Love" (from the movie, Hope Floats). That feels like so long ago -- it was just a few months!

Dani..how funny that you were an Asst Mgr at TCBY too :) I've heard a few John Mayer songs but do not own his CD's.

Erica..that's wonderful that you guys still find time for romance after 21 yrs and 4 kids :)

Lori..that song reminds me of the movie Pretty Woman :)

Katie..I love both of those songs and yes time seems to start flying by after the wedding is over :)

Thanks ladies for sharing. DH walked in from work tonight and I asked him to guess what song I had heard today. He replied with "an old song or new song?" When I answered "old" he took my hand and started dancing and singing "Don't Take the Girl". I guess he still has it in him. Not sure this time was as romantic seeing that we also had two mini dachshunds at our feet barking and jumping. They get so jealous...it's funny :D.

At my first prom in 1975, we danced to Mandy by Barry Manilow - my date is now a gay hair stylist....

Hubby - Crazy by Kenny Rogers.

There's more in between!

Hi Katie: Ours was on 5/17/08 :D although we didn't have any dancing, just a big party here at the house and a margarita machine!

This is fun! Thanks Chastity for starting this thread... I too got mobbed by my little "Licky" Lou (aka Missy Lou - aussie) when I arrived home just before DH and still wiping off the slobber... now that's romantic! HeeHee:p

remember that Seinfeld episode?

Sadly, this thread made me realize that DH and I have never danced :confused:

Us either... i have two left feet! remember that Sienfeld episode where Elaine was dancing... it's not that bad, but close! at least I have rhythm!

DH and I have danced but so rarely that I can't even remember any songs. However when I'm in a funk he will come up to me and say "What's that? Wait, do you hear it? It's POLKA!" Then he'll grab me, start singing a polka tune and fast-polka me around the room. Cracks me up every time and the funk goes away.

I guess that's kind of romantic in its own way. :)

Yep..I am old and we do not dance much at all. But the first slow dance song (and it became our song)...I cry every time I hear it "Always and Forever" by Heatwave....:)

Trust me ladies our dancing would not knock your socks off or anything. But actually you may end up wanting to cover your face to hide your laughter  Let me just say it's really easy to just hang on and go around in a little circle. That's probably why we haven't danced since our wedding

ETA: Dani..that Seinfeld episode is probably one of my favs!

Don't feel bad Catherine! Me and my DH have never danced together either. We tried once at my friend's wedding but QUICKLY gave up. We have no song either and what's romance??? ;) For me, a romantic evening is curling up with Dakota on the couch in front of the fire playing my Wii with DH on his computer somewhere.

Liann that sound like my evenings except I don't have a fireplace :( and I have two doxies with me watching TV :) Oh and sometimes DH is on the computer and sometimes he's not even home. He's usually at a fire dept. meeting or responding to a call :(

So I hear ya...romance, what's that?

Chastity

I don't think I've ever slowdanced with my SO. As for romance... well, the only card he's ever bought me was some horribly mushy thing and inside he wrote "You make my insides all runny... or maybe that's from the Olestra"...

Chastity - I have to post this picture for you of me last night. I had all 3 dogs piled in my lap while I was playing games. I couldn't move. I'll get DH to upload that for me later - it's on his camera. ;)

Liann...I'm quite familiar with the doxie pile :D. My boys have to be on top of me and they are always fighting for the prime spot on my lap. What's funny is when I have to get up, I'll say okay boys mommy has to get up and they look up at me and then lay their heads back down...spoiled rotten :p

Looking forward to seeing the pic :)
