Firm Questions

Cathlete
Hi,
I saw Body Sculpt ( Carman ), Super Body Sculpt ( Corley ) and Cardio Sculpt ( Bunny Hop girl ) at the mall and wondered if any of them were worth getting? I haven't gotten any Firms in ages and trying to read reviews at Videofitness on them is tough because of a lot of Firmies who love them all.

Do any Catheites have them? Recommend them? I have and love the older ones : Vol. 1 , Cardio Burn, Super Cardio and Super Sculpt and Firm Strength. The others were kind of BLAH.

I think I may have these I personally don't like them I found them very clinical and not terribly exciting workouts. I like the early Firms most often because of the set and instructors and the very diverse exercising and use of cardio and weights. But these for me lacked that original Firm sparkle.

I am keeping them for the time being for my sister if she doesn't want them then I will probably get ride of them.

There was just a discussion on this on another board, I don't remember which one. It seemed to be the general consensus that if you liked the older FIRM tapes, you wouldn't like the new ones. If you liked the new FIRM tapes, you wouldn't like the old ones.

I like all the old FIRM tapes. I hated the Body Sculpting 1 system. The tapes were well-balanced and decent workouts but the fun factor was totally missing. That, and they weren't really aerobic weight-training which is why I liked the FIRM so much.

JMHO.

Cardio Sculpt with Allie Del Rio is a great aerobic weight training workout that's lots of fun in my opinion (good music too and Allie has legs to die for!) Body Sculpt with Jen is also good - it separates upper body from lower body (each part about 18 minutes) so you can use it as a split workout or a total body if you want. Super Body Sculpt with Stephanie Corley is good if you're in a big hurry and want to fit in a very quick workout. I think upper body is 12 minutes and lower body is 10 minutes (it's a tough 10 minutes, however). Still Super Body Sculpt probably wouldn't be hard enough for a Cathe fan, but I think the other 2 would work fine for you.
Many people like the look of the new Firm. The latest kit BSS2 is also very good. Many people love Emily Welsh's Complete Aerobics and Weight Training that was just released because it feels like one of the old classic Firms.

Overall if you are very advanced you may still want to stick with Cathe because the new Firms are best for intermediates (in my opinion). Nobody fatigues a body part like Cathe. I definitely find I build strength better with Cathe. But Firms can be fun when you need a change on occasion. I love mixing the two together . They will both get my money every time they release new videos (to my husband's dismay ha!)

Me, too, Lisa. I like them both.

Rachel, the new FIRMs are just different than the old FIRM. It took me a while to warm up to them. Now, I do like them. They aren't like Cathe, but they aren't supposed to be. It's funny. I can do Cathe workouts and they are tough. Cathe keeps my heartrate up there and I'm totally worked out. But, I also do FIRM workouts...geared toward intermediate exercisers, a lot of people say. Still, they keep my heartrate up there and I'm totally worked out!!!!! :+ I think it's just cuz they are different and I never get totally used to one or the other. But, of course, that's just me! :p

I'd say try one of the new FIRMs. They are pretty inexpensive on the Ya Ya swap right now with new vids coming out and folks switching to DVD. See if you like the new set/style. You may or may not click with them. It took me a few tries.

I love variety!!!!

I bought Jen's Body Sculpt and Corley's Super Body sculpt. I liked Jen's more because after doing the leg portion after Body Max I have to say it was a good add on workout. I tried Corley's UB portion and was surprised that it was already over. I seriously doubt that any sculpting effect from that would be SUPER.
I don't mind the new look of the FIRMs they look like Crunch videos...nothing remarkable, but they really can't match the older ones as far as intensity goes. I mean, even Bust and Butt was harder than the new ones. :-(

Don't Waste Your Money

Those videos are awful -- the Firm at its worst. I really wasted my money on that series.

Fit Prime (Anna Benson's part of the Firm) are much more difficult and challenging.

But they still don't hold a candle to Cathe.

The Endurance series has pushed my fitness level to new heights! I realized this when I decided to try some of Cathe's previous videos agan -- even MIC is a walk in the park now!

I can't wait for the new Body Blast series........there isn't a Cathe video I don't love (except the slow and heavy type of workouts, but that is just a personal preference of mine....I don't like slow and heavy workouts period. I probably should do them, but I just don't like them -- I get bored) But I love Muscle Endurance and Power Hour.

RE: Don't Waste Your Money

I must say, I agree with Amy :( I loved LOVED the pre goodtimes FIRM...ending with Super Cardio, but I have found that the newer tapes have fallen short of all of my expectations, but they are getting better. I really hated Cardio Sculpt off the bat, I was very excited for the new FIRM, and welcomed it with open arms, but it wasn't my thing, and I wasn't challenged (for me)
The 6 pack was getting better. I decided to re-try them, and I tried them all, and they were too dang easy IMO intermediate to knowledgeable beginner level and I tried everything to amp it up a little, but..

IMO if you are advanced and looking for a new FIRM challenge..I would stop right there..if you are looking for a light tape to do on sick days or light intensity and about 1/2 hr to 45min (the new BSS2 or the 6pack etc) then I would consider the new FIRMs as an option...

I sooo wish I could find a kick butt new FIRM!! I can't wait until Power Cardio is re released on dvd (going to be renamed "Calorie Killer 2" supposedly, and coming out in June)

RE: Don't Waste Your Money

I just got this set at Wal Mart pretty cheap. Haven't tried it yet, but from what I can tell, it looks TONS better than the older Firms, atleast in production and boredom factor.

I purhase the FIRMS for a lighter, maintenance geared workout. Sometimes I don't have the mental gusto to go with Cathe. Seems like many of her strength workouts I don't look forward to anymore. It is always PUSH PUSH PUSH. So I think I am going to try to keep one heavy day both upper and lower and then all the rest will be cardio/weights stuff such as The Firm or Power Ciruit, or tapes in which you are forced to use lighter weight.

If you are happy with the muscle mass you have and are not looking to build anymore I think the Firms are a good option. However, you can still build mixing Cathe and Firms. I like doing Firm Strength and Tough Tape and wouldn't mind getting my hands on Super Cardio since I heard it is the closest in intensity to Cathe.

I paid 32.00 for the whole set at Walmart..includes absculpt (which does look kinda corny). But that is a really good deal for 3 DVD's, so.....

Go FOR IT!! Variety is the spice of life!!

RE: Don't Waste Your Money

AND I really hope I am talking about the same videos as you. That is one thing I HATE about the FIRM!! They have changed the names of the tapes, so I never know what one I am talking about. And seems like they all have almost the same name which gets really annoying too....
