I did my 1st 5k today. Came in at 30:53, right in the middle of the pack. I was hoping for under 30 mins, but we were all kinda jumbled up at the beginning, so it took a bit to get to an actual run. But I'm happy:):):) Not fast, but not last. The guy who won was 17 mins. Holy smokin' sneakers!! Most of the run was through a forest preserve, but it was kinda muggy this morning, and even more so under all the shade. Makes breathing a little more difficult, and I like to breathe! It was fun, though. Now I have the itch to sign up for another. The arboretum has one in Oct that may be fun, and pretty too. There's also an 8k in town in a couple weeks that could be fun, but I think it starts at 5:30 in the morning. I DON'T start at 5:30 in the morning. Thanks to all my Cathe friends here, who pushed me into registering for this, it was fun!!!

I think Ms Lee's 1st one is today too. Good luck Michele!!!

ETA: I forgot the best (for me) part. There were 3 high school girls sports teams there, one was volleyball, bot sure what the others were. I ended up passing them!!! The had to stop and walk. It is so not nice of me to think that, but those were the girls I couldn't stand in HS when I was all fat and lumpy and dumpy. Not nice I know, but it made me feel good that I ran the whole thing and they didn't . There were some young kids there (9 or 10 yrs old0 that were FAST, though. I'm impressed

Nan, WTG. ^^^5's to you. Just over 30 minutes sounds fabulous to me.

and Good luck to Michelle.

That's fantastic Nan! What an accomplishment! It's always a triumph to pass the "youngsters" in one of these things, isn't it? At least, I would think so! I still haven't done my first one yet!

Congrats!

Congratulations!!! Savor the accomplishment. It's a great feeling!!!

Racing is addicting. I did my first race in February of 2008 and ended up doing a total of 20 races by the end of the year. I've done 16 so far this year.

CONGRATS, Nan! I'll repeat what others say all the time.....this IS addicting! LOL Great job on working it out and DOING IT!!!!! WOO HOO!

And yeah, I'm always in awe of those first few that cross the line!!! I'm running a half marathon tomorrow and was talking to the race directors this past week....they are expecting the FIRST HM runner to cross the finish line WITHIN AN HOUR!!!! HUGH?

WOO HOO!!!!! Congratulations!!! Way to go, Nan!!!

I read your post late last night and I was excited and comforted to know that my fellow Cathlete was in there with me for her first 5K!!!:D

AWESOME JOB!!!!

Congrats!

Be warned, it's addictive!
I've signed up for two more 5k (walks) already this year.
(Though I wouldn't sign up for one that started at 5:30!!! Unless that happened to be PM,LOL!)

I know exactly what you mean! I love passing the younger ones, especially the ones who think they're all that and start out like they think they're going to place really well, or even do some 'trotting" (aka "cheating"!) because they can't keep up fast walking through the whole thing. Even more fun to pass younger RUNNERS while I'm walking!

WTG...yay!
