Fighting cancer with diet and exercise

Well, I know everyone always says that I never thought they would hear their name associated with the word cancer, . . . but apparently I have had since 2008 Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 1/2 a condition which may or may not cause cervical cancer. I've had to had biopsies for years now and never really thought anything of it.
To make a long story short. My OBGYN told me that diet and exercise truly help. She really reccomended drinking lots of green tea. If you ever needed a reason to workout and eat right, . . here is one, . . .it helps to prevent cancer amoung other things.
Unfortunately for me there is nothing I can do but eat better, exercise, and wait 6 months for my next biopsy. My Dr. does not want me to do a hysterectomy unless cancer is confirmed because heck lets face it that is some scary surgery.
I've cut out red meat, white sugar, white flour, and white rice and I've switched to veggies, and whole grains and I'm drinking green tea by the bucket fulls. I thought I'd be more depressed about it but I've been eating really clean for the past 3 days and I'm not looking back. Take that you evil cancer causing cells!

Janie, so sorry you have to go through this and play the "waiting game" :( but you are doing all you can do and have a great attitude! Positive thoughts, prayers and hugs to you! :D

Ugh, wait and see! I hope everything turns out well for you. Continue to take care of yourself, every little bit helps.

As usual Janie, you have a fabulous attitude. Keep it up and as you said, don't look back!

My mother was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer about 8 years ago. After talking to multiple doctors and not hearing anything she liked she did lots of her own research and changed her diet, exercised and didn't look back herself. 8 years later, no chemo or any other doctor prescribed treatment and she is cancer free, healthy like no other 63 year old I know and uses her vacation time to do things like hike the Grand Canyon (from rim to base and back again!) :).

I am hopeful and prayerful that your next biopsy will show you do NOT have cancer -- nonetheless, you are certainly on the right path -- and how wonderful your OBGYN was the sort to know diet and exercise are crucial . . . many don't.

Hugs to you Janie!! Now, what about those swimming lessons :p

Your attitude is wonderful! And it's absolutely true that diet and exercise helps prevent cancer. My best wishes for your continued health.

Also, out of curiosity, you didn't mention if you'd given up dairy as well? I'm asking because I know other people who have given it up for health reasons, because they had learned about correlations between dairy consumption and cancer. Just wondering!

A healthy diet and exercise can help prevent cancer and even helps if you are diagnosed with it. However, there are a lot of books out there that claim this and that and sometimes starting a witch hunt on certain foods, which is not necessary. Yes, green tea is healthy but I would stay away from the bottled Lipton stuff just because of the additives.

I would follow the guidelines of the American Cancer Society and research universities like Harvard.

I love that attitude! My mother was diagnosed with lung cancer 5 years ago. It had already spread to her brain. She had a brain tumour removed, half a lung taken out and radiation. After a year they found tumours in her liver and she had chemo. I believe the only reason she is still alive is because of her attitude. She allowed herself to be upset about the situation, but she NEVER allowed anyone to tell her she had no hope. One doctor tried to tell her she had 6 months and there was no point in trying to remove the tumour from her lung - she did not accept that and kept asking questions - basically standing up to cancer cells and shouting: you don't belong here!

She told me that every night she uses visualization, picturing her healthy cells cleaning up any misbehaving ones. She says to herself "my body rejects cancer."

I will send positive, healing thoughts your way :)

I know this is scary, Janie but I am sure you will be fine. My best friend had the same thing you have a few years ago and like you she decided to change her diet (she cut out dairy, eggs, wheat and meat) and exercise. She also took some herbs and supplements. 12 months later it was all gone and hasn't come back. I know you are going to kick this!!!

I would take anything the American Cancer Society says with a grain of salt not only because their focus is damage control (screening, diagnosis and treatment) opposed to prevention but also because of their entanglement with corporations in the cancer industry. In fact, the Chronicle of Philantropy (a watchdog group that monitors charities) after analysing the ACSs programs and budgets concluded that "the ACS is more interested in accumulating wealth than saving lives".

Whenever I did research on any study, no matter if it is Harvard or anectotal evidence by a group, I always tried to find out who funded the study and who would benefit from the outcome.

I would highly recommend anything by Dr. Samuel Epstein http://www.preventcancer.com/about/epstein.htm and Dr. T. Colin Campbell http://www.tcolincampbell.org/

In any case, I just want to send you positive vibes and I think those cancer cells picked the wrong chick to mess with :D

Thanks for sharing the story of your Mom, Travisli. It is great to hear for those who chose to go a non-conventional route because no matter what we do, there are those moments where we doubt ourselves and question if we are doing the right thing. I am so glad she is doing well! Wow! Hiking the Grand Canyon is quite an accomplishment!!!

Ack! I'm sorry to hear you are dealing with the stress and scariness but if there is anything that will help it is clean eating, exercise and a positive attitude and you have all three!

Sending supportive love and hugs your way,
Lisa
