feeling forearms on one-arm rows

Cathe, when doing one-arm rows with relatively heavy weight (25 lbs.) I tend to feel it in my forearms by the end of a set. I don't feel like my form is suffering in that my elbow is staying close to my body and I'm able to bring my arm about an inch past my waist as you describe when giving form pointers, but is the feeling in my forearm telling me otherwise? Is it maybe just getting in shape along with my back? When I drop to 20 lbs. I don't feel like I'm pushing myself. Thoughts? Thanks!

Not Cathe, but I suspect your grip is tight.

Try using your hands just as hooks, without holding the weight too tightly (which engages the forearms more).

You could also try lifting straps. They are heavy-duty cotton or leather straps that loop aroud your wrist, then wrap around the weight, and you don't have to grip the weight as tightly to hold onto it.

There are some on this page (leather on top, cotton ones farther down the page) : http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/straps.html They are also easy to find in stores that sell weights (sometimes even Walmart carries them).

Not Cathe, either, but I'm going to agree w/ Kathryn on this one. I find I tend to hold on to heavier wts with a death-grip, and it doesn't take long to start feeling it in my hands and forearms. If I loosen up a bit, then it is much better. Just hold on tight enough to not drop it. I find when I get to the end of a set, I am holding on tighter bc I am tired and trying to eek out the last rep or two. If I tell my self to relax, those last couple go a lot smoother with a looser grip, instead of having everything all tensed up.
