So, my 8 year old just finished reading his fourth Harry Potter book, and I'm super proud of him for loving to read so much. He always has... Our house is flooded in children's books. I love them as much as they do... So I was wondering...
What are YOUR favorite children's books? Mine are:
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein and
The Sneetches by Dr. Seuss

Though I have MANY that I love!

As a child, I loved reading too! My fav's were:

Little House on The Prairie --the whole series
Nancy Drew--the whole series
Diary of Anne Frank
Are You There God? It's me, Margaret.
Trixie Belden books

I don't have children but I still love children's books. :D

My personal favorites as a child were:

Ann of Green Gables

I often give the Runaway Bunny and Goodnight Moon as baby gifts, and I love any and all Dr. Seuss books. :)

Good for your 8 year old. The Harry Potter Series is a challenging read for an 8 year old. I ALWAYS love it when I see that spark from children, . . when they are so engrossed in a book and just transported into their imagination. Nowadays children mostly use their thumbs for video games instead of their imagination for reading.
 
Ooh, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! Love that one too! My mom used to read it to my sister at bedtime, and when she was done, she'd dig a little piece of chocolate out of her pocket and give it to us.
 
Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish. My girls and I enjoyed those books well into their school years.
Code Orange by Caroline Cooney - a young reader book. I loved it.

My daughter is reading the 4th Harry Potter book now, too. She's 7 1/2 and it's a really big book for her (she's halfway through).

I am surprised to see other Trixie Belden fans! I didn't realize the series was so popular. I want to introduce my dd to them this summer and I hope she enjoys them.

I picked up "The BFG" and "The Witches" by Roald Dahl at the library the other day for DS. He finished up "The BFG" but hasn't started "Thw Witches" yet. Both were favorites of mine when I was a kid. Snozzcumbers!!!! Love it!!!!!!

DS loves Percy Jackson and FableHaven - read those and Potter at least 2x thru each series, Potter 3x I think.

I loved Trixie Belden, too! I would save up my allowance just to buy the books. I can't wait until my girls start reading them ....

I loved Trixe Belden too! I read them over and over again for years. I used to like to eat chili when I read The Mystery in Arizona. What a goofball! I tried reading them to my daughter when she was 5 but she wasn't into them yet.

Otherwise, I love the Kevin Henkes little mice books for preschoolers. Lily's Purple Plastic Purse, Wemberly Worried, Sheila Rae the Brave to name a few.

I like Junie B. Jones too. She can be a little naughty, so I point out that this is how not to behave! But I was entertained reading them to my girls for hours on end.
 
Another Trixie Beldon fan here! My daughter is almost ready for them, but not quite yet!

I love all the Judy Blume books, too.

Right now I love Mike Lupica. He writes sports based stories for kids (boys and girls are fans). The stories are wonderful with good character development. My first one was Heat. I didn't think that I would like it, but I ended up loving it!

My daughter (now 8) loved Kevin Henkes (very cute) and Junie B. Jones (very funny). My son (when he was around 9) loved the Goosebumps series by R.L. Stine (I think his favorite was "Say Cheese and Die"). I haven't read any but some 9 year olds are reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.
