Where does the time go? New thread!

I weighed in yesterday, lost 4 pounds in February. Lost an inch each in chest, waist and hips. Also lost some in arms and legs but I'm not even sure I'm measuring those right. It seems wrong that so few pounds could result in so many inches lost. But I'll take it :)

Tina - I've never done any of the Imaxes, you've got me curious. I weigh in at home alone, on the 1st of each month and any other time I feel lucky. Works out to slightly more than once a week. I didn't want to weigh in yesterday because it's TTOTM and I'm just not feeling great about anything in general. What are you doing for DD's birthday, anything special?

Hi Addie - what do you do about eating when you're super busy? For me that's the time when I make bad choices - just want to grab something quick and get on with other things.

Have a great weekend ladies :)

Hi Gals, I hope you're both having a relaxing weekend. Today DH and I did Cycle Max and yesterday we were able to get outside for a 28 mile ride. My work hours were cut in half this weekend, so we are just lazing around. Thanks for starting a new thread Sue! : )

So, back to the book. Our group argument was about how much Will helped Lou come out of her shell and see her past trauma wasn't anything she caused. One of the women in the group said we were being very judgemental of Lou, and that there was nothing wrong with her life and not wanting to expand her world beyond her home town. It escalated quickly to shouting (I hate confrontation of any sort, so I just grabbed my tea and watched the show) and that others were judging Will's mother too harshly. Best book group ever! I really did love that book. I just finished The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman. It was a sad story, but the writing is beautiful. It wasn't a book club read, just one that was recommended. It reminded me a little of Mudbound, which is also a great read.

Sue, do you want to start STS the first Monday in May? Would that work with your current rotation?

Addie, how are the workouts going? Have you mastered Lo Max yet. It always leaves me with DOMS the next day.

Gym Styles are planned for this week, looking forward to it. I'll check back in tomorrow morning. Have a great day! : )

Sorry Sue, I forgot to congratulate you on your weight loss, that's fantastic!! I think you need to reward yourself with another treat! : )

Hi ladies! Yesterday I finished up my 1RM testing (have you done the one arm plank kickbacks? Holy wow, those were tough!). I'm proud to report an average 25% increase in my numbers. The first time through STS was challenging, I can only imagine how tough it'll be next time (yes, 1st Monday in May works for me - planning on it). Today I started to put the 30 day cardio/weights rotation on my calendar, but it's lousy with all out low impact hiit. This is the one workout in the series I don't care for. So I looked at the strength only rotation and that has each body part twice per week, more than I want to take on right now. I have the warrior dash in 2 weeks (which is why I've been doing so much walk/running) so I think I'll continue with the 4x/week walk/run and add in 2 days of xtrain upper body. After the race I'll decide what rotation I want to do.

Tina I'm so happy you were able to get out for a ride. Spring's right around the corner - you won't be cooped up much longer :). Have fun with gym styles this week.

Here's my take on the book. I thought Lou was a silly young woman with low self esteem, her boyfriend was not a good match for her and she was probably going to end up settling for the life that was expected of her. She did have the one traumatic event, I though it was important that Will said it wasn't her fault however she probably needs professional help to get completely past it. I felt her family dynamics had a lot more to do with her lack of ambition than the trauma. In trying to help Will, Lou found she wasn't the good-for-nothing she believed she was and grew into a more confident and capable woman. I didn't have anything against Will's mother. She was in an impossible situation and her heart probably broke a million times throughout everything that happened. She was the one who chose Lou, which ultimately was the best thing she could have done for her son. I was mesmerized by how artfully the author kept doling out the dreadful details.

I can't take another sad book so I'll pass on your other recommendation for now :). Last year I read Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I loved the story while hating all the characters. My favorite book is A Prayer for Owen Meany, I was sad when I finished that one because I didn't want the story to end.

Addie, I hope you haven't been too busy this weekend :) remember to take care of yourself!

Just a quick chime in: Sue, great job on your 1RM numbers. You should post your story over on the success forums! : ) I did those one arm planks on Friday, love them!

A Pray for Owen Meany takes place in the town I went to school in. All of the streets in the story are less than five miles from my house. I enjoyed reading about all the familiar homes and stores. I should dig it up and re-read it.

I hope you've found the new tread Addie. How are your workouts going?

Happy Monday!

Hello Tina and Sue. Yes!!!! Here I am. Long weekend.

Thanks Tina found the new thread okay. Just been busy.

Quick post for now. I am heading to the gym to get my workout. Will be back to tell all.

Its my day off. Yes!!!

Addie

Hi ladies, another walk/run for me today. Tina - small world! Yes, I will alway recommend reading that one again :) Addie what was your workout today? Have a great Tues :)

I'm not feeling so great today so I took some cold medicine and I'm going to bed early. No workout today :( I hope you gals are faring better!

Hello Ladies,

Ugh!! So sorry. It seems like i havent been checking in weeks. My last workout was Monday at the gym on the treadmill 30 minutes walk. Felt good tho.

Oh Sue! Hope you feeling better. And congrats on the weights lost.

Hi Tina! How are you?

Hope to be back when I can. :(

Keep on rocking! :)

Addie

Hi Ladies, hope you're both doing well. Sue, I hope you've kicked your virus!

Today was Gym Style Legs. The GS's are kicking my butt this week, phew! I've bribed DS with a dollar for every mile he walks, so I've gotten some extra walking miles in this week. We both benefit (not my purse tho).

I've been eating really clean during the day, my downfall is after dinner. This spring can't come fast enough!

Hi ladies, I'm feeling better today but not at 100% yet. I did a 30 minute walk/run tonight, the bare minimum for the program I've been following. I usually do an hour but just didn't have it in me tonight.

Tina nice job on GSL :). Your DS is making easy money, I bet you're enjoying the extra time with him, that's great! My only advice on the evening nosh is to eat more dinner, it's probably healthier and lower cal than what you're snacking on later. If you do this you may still snack but not as much.

Hi Addie, how are you doing on the beginner rotation? Are you counting calories or following a nutrition plan like paleo?

Have a great Thursday :)

Today I did my first xtrain weights - chest/back/shoulders. It reminded me a lot of meso 1 from STS. I absolutely loved the warm up/cool down, I might sub in xtrain warmups next time I do STS. I'm going to have to work on pushups, I've lost ground in the last couple of months and did almost all of them on my knees.

Tina how was your after dinner snacking today? Is your snack faerie still coming around? do you like Vonnegut?

Addie how are you doing?

Good morning ladies. Yesterday was Cardio Kicks and the cardio parts to Circuit Max. It was a great blast from the past. I had forgotten how fun those two workouts are. I'm going to put that into regular rotation.

Sue, isn't the weight work from Xtrain awesome? Today I have GS Chest and Tri's. I can still feel some DOMS from Monday's GS, so I'm a little nervous. Next week is STS Meso 1 and I'm a little concerned with the push-ups as well. There may be a few on the knees.

I've had Slauterhouse-Five on my 'to read' list for years. Is that where I should start? Maybe I'll pick one of his books up for vacation.

We celebrated DD birthday a day early, so again the eating is way off plan.
And my dad keeps ringing the door bell with sugar laden goodies....

Sue, how many days until your race? DH came home last night and informed me we have joined a team for a bike fundraiser in May. He signed us up for the 50 mile ride. I'm a little nervous about the funding part, each team member has to come up with $250. I'll be Googling tips on how to go about that.

Addie, hope your gym workouts are going well. Check in when you can. : )

Good morning ladies, hope you're both doing well. Yesterday was GS Chest and Tris + STS no equip. abs. I am wonderfully sore this morning. I'm starting to think those GS workouts are tougher than STS.

We're digging out from another bleeping snow storm, so no outdoor biking this weekend. : (

TTFN.

: ) Tina

Hi ladies! Today I did Turbo Barre, haven't done that one in months and my performance was much better than last time. I think I'm ready to move up to the green firewalker loop. The lunges in this workout didn't bother my knees at all, bonus!

Tina, yes, loving the xtrain weight work so far. I probably should have done xtrain legs today but I watched the first few exercises and thought the lunges would tear up my knees so decided on turbo barre instead. My race is next Saturday. Do you have to fundraise 250 or is that an entry fee? I have lots of FB friends who post links and ask for contributions for races, seems to work well. if you send me the link I'll contribute. What's the cause? Slaughterhouse 5 is a Vonnegut classic but if you want a taste without the commitment of an entire novel I'd go with Welcome to the Monkey house, a collection of shorts. The title story is good, but my favorites are Harrison Bergeron and Unready to Wear. My two favorites of his novels are Breakfast of Champions & Cat's Cradle.

Addie, I hope things are well with you :). Let us know how you're doing.

Good morning Sue and Addie! DH talked me into riding yesterday. The roads were slushy in places, but the temperature was 42 with full sun. Today is a rest day.

Sue, I haven't done Turbo Barre in months. I do love that one. I'm always surprised at the burn in the upper body portion. Xtrain Legs without the standing portion should be easy on your knees too. You'll need fresh knees for next weeks race.

I just requested Cat's Cradle from the library. The reviews look great for this one. Do you use Goodreads.com? Love that site.

I hope you're doing well Addie, would love to hear from you.

Have a great day! : )

Hola! Today was a short walk/run. I'm ready for a cardio change, just one more week then I'll start up an xtrain rotation. one of the ladies on MFP suggested the 30 day ride, swapping out the bike workout for a cardio of my choice. I'm going to do that one, it looks so much better than the 30 day cardio/strength.

Tina I agree about turbo barre upper body, especially when you hit it again on the floor segment. I've got glute DOMS today that are higher and wider than I usually get from leg workouts. Are you going back to STS on your rotation this week? I haven't used good reads yet, I'll check it out soon. I hope you like Cat's Cradle, if you're anything like me you'll get hooked.

Waving hello to Addie :)

Ho hum, another walk/run for me today. I'm not too bad at the running part as long as I don't think about running. Tomorrow will be xtrain bis/tris, can't wait. Then no more weights until next week. I don't want to have DOMS on Saturday.

Here's a good appetite suppressant - the walking dead. I just finished watching the first season on Netflix, it is absolutely disgusting!

How's everyone doing?

Good morning. : ) Yesterday was M1D1 and Pilates abs. I made it through all of the push-ups, some of them were ugly for sure. I take back my last comment about the GS's being the toughest workouts. STS kicks butt! The walking agreement I have with DS is panning out well. Between walking with him, then a short walk with my mom, and an evening walk with DD and DH, I managed to get 5 miles in. : )

Sue, how did you like XT Bis and Tris? I tried adding on the two challenges at the end, and there was no way I was getting 100 reps, my arms were on FIRE! When you race, do you try and beat your own record each time? Do you have friends that go along with you?

Our neighbors have been trying to get us hooked on The Walking Dead. Our library has the first season, but I'm just not sure if we could take the grossness. Did you like it?

David Sedaris has a new book coming out in April called Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls. I know he's not for everyone, but he's the one person who can leave me in a fit of giggles. I'm excited for a funny book after all the heavy I've been reading.

I managed to stay under my calorie goal yesterday, first time in weeks. : )

Have a great day! : )

Grrrrrrrr! I totally fell on my hiney, kickboxing this morning. I was so mad at myself, I shut the TV off, stomped upstairs and called it a day. My midlife tantrum. Hope you ladies had better luck with your workouts!
