Fat caliper verses tanita scales

Well i bought a caliper. It is easy once you figure out how to program it(I am just dense on directions)
Well, here is the difference from scale to caliper.
Scale says 21.1% body fat
Caliper says 19.3%.
The only thing i dodn't like was when i pinched with it, it bruised my skin.
The darn thing is sharp.
I am discousted with the scale. It fluctuates with bloating and whether i have had water or coffee.
One day 140 . One day 146, One day 144.
Goal was 125 , but ,i think i am going to work on 15% body fat and not worry about the scale.
Any one else agree>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Is the caliper automated some how? I've never seen calipers that need programming. Calipers testing is not really pleasant, it should hurt a little, bruising seems a little excessive though.

The tanita scales are really sensitive to water levels so you should use it at the same time of day, in the morning after you've used the bathroom for example.

Manual caliper testing also has its cons. You need to be really exact on where you're placing the calipers, down to the cm. I'm in school for exercise science and we spent 2 weeks practicing caliper placement... it takes a lot of practice and it really needs to be done by another person so that triceps, subscapular, and midaxillary sites can be read properly.

All that being said, don't focus on it too much, it's just a number and in my opinion measuring circumference (waist, hips, thigh, chest, etc.) is just as good, if not better in terms of showing fat loss.

I prefer my digital caliper over my Tanita. Not only because it gives a (slightly) lower reading but because it measures 3 sites and that just makes more sense to me.

I, too, had to program my personal information into it before using. I would highly question tha accuracy if it didn't ask for that stuff.

Again, we all know these are not 100% accurate and are best used to measure progress. We love them because they give us an idea.

I bought a scale and had it so inaccurate. It would change if stepped right back on it. I think it was by Conair. I got rid of it. I have digital fat calipers that measure 3 sites and you program. I think these are so much more accurate. The scale made me feel like I must have a lot of bodyfat. I really felt it was not right. Personally I would not think the caliper would bruise you. Maybe you pinched to hard or maybe you are in need of some vitamin C. If I don't take vitamin C or consume a lot of aspirin I will bruise more easily. I have also read that vitamin e affects bruising. Just some thoughts on that, I hope you don't mind.

Those of you who use the digital calipers..what brand do you use? I really like the idea of investing in one of these.
