Fat around the middle!

Cathlete
Hi all,
What do you think will help me lose my rolls around the mid-section
(ribcage area)? I am already doing advanced Cathe cardio four to
five times a week. I do one of her weight training dvds one day
a week, usually, and I don't eat junk food, excess sugar, etc..
I have always had extra fat around the middle, but I'm ready to put
forth an all-out effort to get rid of it!! Any suggestions besides what I'm doing already, or in place of what I'm doing? Would more
core work and fewer calories help? I can't seem to get these "rolls" to budge! Thanks for any advice/help you can give me!

Hi Valpak,

May I suggest changing your method of cardio from what you are used to doing? Perhaps incoporate some circuits and perhaps throw some walks and/or runs into the mix.

You cannot spot reduce, but with some good weight lifting and various methods or cardio, you could get your metabolism to be more efficient and could therefore burn more calories which would eventually affect the areas you are wanting to target.

Why don't you provide a little more detail about the cardio you are doing and also what you do eat. It's quite possible that you are simply not eating enough and you body is storing fat as a result.

With the information you provide, I'm sure you'll get good responses and suggestions.

Take care!

If you feel you're getting plenty of cardio and also incorporating some strength training, then I would suggest you take a look at your diet. In order to lose body fat you need to eat clean foods and a moderate amount of calories. You can exercise until the cows come home, but if you are eating nothing but pizza and hamburgers it's probably not going to do much good. Too bad though, I could probably live off a diet of pizza alone.:7

Thanks for responding!
I feel sure that one major thing I can do to lose the belly fat is to "clean up" my eating. I eat 4-6 servings of fruits and vegetables each day, but I also indulge in pizza, pasta, white bread, etc.. What exactly is "clean eating"? Is there a book that I could read to explain the concept, or is it simply cutting carbs?
As far as the cardio I do, it is mainly Cathe Step Blast, SJP cardio,
KPC, and some others, always using a 6" bench. About once a week I do either Muscle Max or some other weight tape. I am 41 but don't want to resign myself to accepting the belly fat just because I'm in my forties! I have had a c-section, which doesn't help my stomach muscles! Again, thank you for any advice or help!

There are probably several definitions, but it's basically eating foods that are found in nature: no processed foods or foods with artificial ingredients in. Avoiding the "whites" (white flour, sugar, white pasta) is also important, as is getting lots of veggies and fruits. I would also including limiting "flour" products, even if they are whole grain flours.

Hi Marietta,

Love your signature. What script is that? Can you cut and paste these signatures into email also?

Yes, battle of the middle bulge. Combo of good diet and exercise plus planks seems to help.
