I wanted to ask some of the older girls out there (40 and up) if you are trying to lose weight and sculpt the muscle you know is under that layer of fat, do you find that the 30 minute workouts do it for you? I don't mean you can't do 30 minutes or less of cardio in a day, I know you can burn a lot of calories in a short amount of time but I mean if your working on sculpting your muscle as well, do you feel like you need to add on another 20 or 30 minutes to your workout for weights? I'm just wondering what you ladies believe is a good amount of time for you? Things are harder to sculpt as I get older.
Thanks
Ivy, I love that you asked this question. I have been curious if people find they can maintain the results they want doing shorter (maybe even less intense) workouts.
I just thought I would mention, a couple of weeks ago I started KCM's summer rotation 2015 which utilizes her 30 minute to fitness series. I have been feeling really wiped out lately and I knew I needed to cut back on my workouts (something that's very difficult for me to do
. I know others can relate).
I am finding this rotation is working really well for me. I have subbed a couple of KCM's DVDs that I do not own with Cathe's DVDs and I typically do an ab workout every workout (some of Cathe's) even if it is not included on the rotation. On a couple of days, when I felt more energetic than usual, I have added in 20 minutes on the Elliptical. I am doing more stretching and foam rolling.
Doing this rotation has opened me up to the idea of doing more premixes on Cathe's DVDs. I have a tendency to have the mind set "If I'm not going to do the entire workout what is the point of doing the workout." I know some of the more intense workouts my body is not craving right now. I could do a premix that is shorter than the full workout. This would give me tons of workout options AND I would not be continuing to drain my energy and overtax my body.
I know I will get back to longer weight training sessions; my body needs more than 30 minutes for muscle definition; however, for right now, this approach is working to help me restore. As others have mentioned here, it is all about listening to your body and doing what feels good and what your body responds to.
Just thought I would share
