False eyelashes?

For some reason my eyelashes have started to fall out again and I am down to less than a dozen on each eye. What's left is really little. Also my eyebrows are falling out again.

Has anyone here ever used false eyelashes? Do they look really fake-y? Is there anyway you can put them on, and trim them, just to "fill in" what's missing until the real thing grows back?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Distraught,

Supposedly flasies are coming back thanks to the like of the once again re-invented Madonna!

I have an appointment to get my first set of eye lash extensions this week. I have always wanted longer, lusher lashes. I've tried every mascara that promised to give me the best but it never works well.

Eye lash extensions last 6 weeks...basically as your real lashes start to shed, they require "touch-ups".

How much does that cost (and what part of the country are you in)?? Can you wear contacts if you have these?? Just curious, as I've never heard of this.

I didn't really want anything extreme, but I'm just tired of having eyes like a reptile - no lashes.

Maybe I'm just too self-conscious, but after all the chemo, the mastectomy, the radiation, the weight gain, the hair loss, the loss of fitness, etc., I would just like one part of me to look like the regular "me".

Wah. ;-)

I live in the Boston area, there are several salons that offer extensions. They are not extreme, in fact that are mathced to your natural lash color. It takes approx. 2.5 hours (a very relaxing nap) to apply a full set. They run $250 for initial apllication and a fraction for touch ups every 4-6 weeks.

You can also get a partial set, for example to embellish your lashes at the outer edge of your eyes.

the eyelash extensions are kinda like hair extensions, cost more, last longer, better quality. I personally use false eyelashes (get mine from MAC for about $7 a pair- the girls at the counter help you to put them on and teach you how) I have been wearing them for about 2 yrs now (not every day of course) and i LOVE them! They instantly make me feel like I look better, I constantly get compliments on them, nobody can tell they are fake. They come in different styles, lengths, thickness, etc. They don't all look like the drag queen spider eyes!!! They also have individual lashes that you can apply with glue and tweezers just to the areas that need some extra oomph! Very inexpensive at wal-mart for the lashes and glue. I wear contacts, too and have never had a problem! hope this helps you out! My mom had cancer and I helped her to learn how to apply these because she lost her lashes and it made her feel much better. Good luck!

i have worn fake lashes alot. you can find them at the drug store or target/walmart for maybe $3-4. they are reusuable. make sure to get the clear glue or the self-adhesive ones and some liquid eyeliner. (it helps cover the line and make them look more flush to your lashline) It takes a couple tried to get them on strait and you should trim them to fit your eyes. Apply them from the inside of your eye to the outside. a wooden cuticle stick is helpful. it also helps to apply masscara to what ever lashes you do have before applying the fake ones. if you wear eyeshadow, i would suggest you put the lashes on first to avoid smudging your shadow blends. if you end up with shadow dust in your lashes...hairdryer on low works wonders ;-) don't be afraid to peel them off and start over as many times as it takes. they are very sturdy little things:7 OH, and one more thing....when removing them, peel from the outside. don't worry, it doesn't hurt :D

Hi there,

I just wanted to mention that my friend who is a hair and makeup stylist once told me that eyelash extensions are fairly bad for your lashes - that often they damage the folicle. I don't know how much she researched (and I certainly have no idea), but you might want to ask around a little if you decide to go that route. It might just be a matter of having something to do with finding someone who is really professional about putting them on you...I've never tried them and I don't know, but I thought I would tell you what I'd heard.

As for self-adhesive ones, there are lots and lots of "degrees" of lushness in those guys. Some of them are full-blown vampin'-and-dancin'-at-the-club, and some of them are much, much more stroll-in-the-park (so thin that once when I tried ones over my own eyelashes and it made no difference whatsoever). If you go for these guys, you might ask the salesperson to recommend ones that you can re-use many times as some of them - the really cheap ones - you'll want to take off at night and throw directly into the garbage can! :)

I love false eyelashes, and wigs!

I woul wear false eyelashes in a second if I needed them. And I would wear a wig in a second if I needed one of those too. I would pick a long, blonde wig.

There is a newscaster at a local TV station and she wears false eyelashes every day and she looks so pretty on camera. Oprah wears them too.

I once heard that Oprah will not appear without them unless its for a special show like where she doesn't wear any makeup or something. I saw her without them once and she looked completely different! Heard the same thing about Jennifer Lopez- and she likes hers made out of fox fur! Thats a little extreme!}(
