Falling asleep at work!

Hello all! I recently have been starting back up with my 5 am wake up call to work out. And I love it...I like getting my workouts done and it gives me a boost. But about 1pm, I find myself getting really sleeping...and lately I've caught myself falling asleep if I'm not doing some active. Help! Has anyone ever experienced this? I am wondering if my body is just trying to adjust to my new schedule. Thanks!

It could either be that, or you aren't getting enough sleep. I have had that problem both when I'm adjusting to a new schedule, and also when I'm getting enough sleep. My advice is just to wait it out, it will get better after a week or two. Also, make even more sure to get enough sleep through the transition period and that helps some.

Good luck, I'm a recent morning-workout convert too and loving it!!

Thanks for responding. I feel like I'm getting enough sleep, but hey...maybe not. I'd hate to get fired because I'm sleeping at work because I'm getting up to work out...hee hee.. Anyway...I'll trying to getting into bed a bit earlier. Thanks so much!

How about a cup of green tea with mint? It contains a bit of caffeine and the mint also helps wake you up (mints themselves can also help).

Hi Deni!

I have been SOOOO sleepy lately I've been thinking there's something wrong with me and I KNOW it's not lack of sleep. I sleep nine hours a night. Maybe it's the weather? Just letting you know you're not alone.:-sleepy

Usually I have a salad (spinach and romain), grilled chicken breast and I'll have a Lean Cusine meal, or a sandwich wrap with meat, cheese and spinach and romain. Do you think that is the problem? I try to match all meals with protien and carbs. On the way to work this morning..I felt like I could fall asleep. Geesh!

It could also be a lack of oxygen ? Maybe a brisk 10 minute walk outside to blow away the cobwebs ? Do work colleagues mind having windows open at work ?

Anna :)

Deni Rhea:

Sounds to me like a food allergy could making you sooo sleepy after lunch of the day. You probably know all the common ones
like peanuts, soy, wheat, milk, seafoods, corn, and eggs.

I worked with a woman in the 80's that would get soooo sleepy every day after lunch sometime that she could hardly make it thru the afternoon. I mean it was like severe. She never could figure it out. After discovering she was allergic to soy and cutting that out of her diet one day she remarked to us "You know I'm never sleepy all afternoon any more like I used to be" HUMMMMM she was a vegetarian and often brought tofu or tempeh stirfrys or sandwiches for her lunch!!!! That was the culprit!

Just something to think about.
