Extra Protein Idea

Can of tuna fish we usually will mix in some mayonnaise so it is not so dry. How about mixing with cottage cheese instead, and getting in more protein by doing so? Tried it and cottage cheese is creamy like mayonnaise so I think it works really well. Plus think of all that extra protein!

Have any others you would like to share?

great idea, Charlotte (as I'm finishing my tuna sandwich post workout)! Welcome back, by the way :) We missed ya! I love cottage cheese so I mix it with a lot of things.

I actually use cottage cheese instead of ricotta to make my lasagna. Better protein in there & very moist and yummy!

Oh my that sounds soooo good. Thanks for the idea.. usually I use fat free mayo and it's not very tasty.. this sounds like it would be really good.

Sounds weird but when I want a little snack or a pick me up I ocasionally do this. Take a teaspoon of natural peanut butter (peanuts and salt) and take a little bit of chocolate whey powder or choclate soy powder and pack it on top, push it down good with the spoon so it doesn't make a hugh mess if you beathe to hard. It tastes almost like a reeses cup. I discovered it when I finished working out so late I was to tired and didnt want to eat much because it was so late but need so protein.
Its yummy :)

You could make peanut butter balls out of this. I used to make them with p.b., honey, and carob powder (cocoa powder would also work). You could do the same with p.b. and chocolate protein powder. Just mix them with your hands (use latex gloves if you're worried about looking like a proctologist}( ) and add enough powder so the mixture is pretty stiff. Mix it well. Then roll into balls. Makes a nicer texture than your "piling" method, I think.

You could keep these in the fridge for a quick snack (and no one would know they are "healthy"!)

I've been mixing tuna (albacore) with cottage cheese for years. I've mentioned it on this board a couple of times. I also add some salsa with it and mix with spinach leaves.

Oooo, I am lovin' this idea! Thanks for sharing! Now to find a store around here that sells black soybeans....just might have to wait to go to Wild Oats again. ;)

Yep this is what I did when I made them for my SO to try, he liked them too. I left out the honey though, his peanut butter has honey in it but I dont really like it. It works great though, I just like the quick method sometimes when I'm in a hurry, which unforunately is most of the time. :)

Kathryn,

This is intriguing. I think I need more protein in my diet and have never seen chocolate protein powder. Is it readily available? Caloric?

Thanks!

Angel's the one who uses the chocolate protein powder. A lot of brands of protein powder seem to make a chocolate option (I just pay attention to the soy ones, as I don't eat whay), so it's pretty easy to find. Some brands taste better than others.

Angel: what brands do you use?

I like to take cottage cheese and mix in some salt free herbs or occasionally ranch dip mix and use it to dip celery and cucumber slices in. I guess that is not extra proetein though, but a great snack.
