Exercise Mags...or Just rags

I think I remember seeing this type of question in this forum before but why are the Fitness and Shape magazine advertising so many diet pills. One article (I thought it was an article)states "Everybody want to lose weight...but which diet pill is right for you"(Fitness Aug 2007).In this article/ad. they recommended "combo pilling" by taking Zantrex 3 and Relacore.

I saw my daughter reading this and got angry..not at her but this magazine should not allow this type of ad. I explained to my 13 year old daughter that diet pills are not regulated and can be dangerous.I emailed Fitness and gave them a piece of my mind.

An editor of some fitness magazine addressed this question. He said that these magazines, just like any other, is a business. The ads pay for the business. Without them there would be no magazine. You are right, though, about mistaking some of these ads for articles. You really have to look closely sometimes.

I recently bought a subscription to Oxygen and was so disappointed in the number of ads for diet pills I cancelled the subscription immediately. Diet pills and a healthy lifestyle just don't mix in my opinion.

Even though the ads pay for the magazine, I find it hard to believe they can't find respectable ad revenue elsewhere. I'd rather have no fitness magazines then.

I just bought my first Oxygen mag and I feel the same way. While they have incredibly fit ladies featured most of the ads are awful....just big boobs and tiny waists. I get tired too of seeing not-so-fit ladies featured in Self, etc. Just celebrities. I canceled most of my subsriptions.
