Exciting weather is on the Way!

So, I'm sitting here listening to my online Hearts of Space radio program and waiting for the big nasty storm to hit. I'm in Indianapolis and we've got one doozy of a storm on the way. It had better not peter out before it gets here!!! It seems that all the storms this year have either gone just north or just south of where I live, or they fizzled out right before they reached my house, then built back up after passing over. x( I would really like to see a good lightning show "on top of" my house tonight! I love a good thunderstorm! (I know, I'm nuts...but who cares??!!) :7

Weeeeellllll...the weather here might get a little more exciting than I anticipated or wanted. It seems a tornado is on the ground just NW of the county I live in....and this particular storm cloud is heading...guess where? ...straight for my house.

So, why am I still on this message board instead of running around in a panic? I don't know. *scratching head like a moron*. Maybe I had better gather a bag of clothes and blankets...and get the kitty carriers in here for the cats.

Gotta run and batt'en down the hatches! You all take care!

Hey Cat.
Hope all is well. You seemed to be enjoying the weather last night! Hope you and the kitties are all ok. Let us know.

Then I must be nuts too. I absolutely love a good thunderstorm and lightning show and so does my 9 year old. (but no tornados, thank you).

This may sound stupid, but I when I was a teenager and was sitting my brothers a big storm came through. I was never afraid of any storms until this day. I got the kids in the house and turned off everything and we would sit on the couch. I looked out the window and All I could see was gray dust out the window. I couldn't see any thing else. We all got into the closet and luckily it ended soon.So everytime now even as a grown woman any time I hear of a tornado watch near the area or a warning I go into a panic attack. My throat closes up and I can't breathe. this sounds so childish but its something I can't get over. My husband says there is nothing I can do about it, so not to be scared.

Is there anyone who experiences the same thing as me?

Catwoman,

I love that you are not afraid of storms. I like watching storms myself. DH absolutely loves a good lightening storm.

That being said...you need to come to Florida during hurricane season :) .

I remember when we used to shut the computer down for storms. Yesterday, I told my daughter not to worry, we have a surge protecter and I THINK it still works. Our storm never materialized. Tornados are perhaps a little too exciting for me though. Phobias are like that. Ali has one from a lightening strike when she was 18 months old, sitting in my sister's lap at my mother's home in Michigan. We all had bowls of popcorn and we were going to watch a movie when the house took a lightening strike and the TV blew up. The lights went off and my sister screamed, scaring poor Ali, who's still freaks out over dramatic lightening and thunder and probably always will. Be safe! I'll be thinking of you guys with special cyber hugs for you, Kim. :)

I too love a good thunderstorm. When I was growing up my Dad would set the picnic table up in the carport and call us all to watch the storm. I have fond memories of watching thunderstorms over Lake Ontario when I lived in a high rise about 10 miles north of the lake. When we lived in Peterborough our house was on a hill with the back facing south. We saw some awesome storms from my daughters bedroom window:) I took a very indirect hit of lightening 2 years ago. I was putting air in the tires of my car and lightning struck the ground about 100 metres from where I stood. I felt the shock of it in the metal part of the air gun and involuntarily flung it to the ground. My daughter, the young fellow vacuuming his car and I were all stunned for a moment and I shook it off. Boy did I feel hepped up for the rest of the day:p

I might feel differently about thunder and lightening if I lived in a place more prone to tornadoes. My brother lives on the west coast of British Columbia and often remarks at how much he misses a good thunderstorm:)

Take Care

Hidy Ho, Cathe Neighbors!

We survived the storm, but was it a wild ride!!! My husband and I watched from the front door as the storm rolled toward us, and the lightning was amazing!!! It was CONSTANT! Quite literally, not a full second went by without a flash of lightning in the distance.

Then the tornado sirens went off. We kept our eyes to the North and West, looking for the funnel, and kept our ears to our little band radios that were tracking it. Then, a bright flash of lightning lit up behind the approaching wall of clouds and we saw it! We saw the "shelf" cloud that surrounded the tornado. We couldn't see the funnel, but there was no question that were seeing the wall...and it was right on track with where our band radio said it was heading. What a rush!!! But at least our little house was out of harm's way. It didn't sound like any major damage was done to the surrounding area, except for a lot of downed trees.

After the storm finally hit, the lightning took on a whole new dimension! It was fierce! Gave me an asthma attack ,it did (all that ozone).

So, all is safe here...at least for now.

Oh, in response to the post about how I should visit Florida in hurricane season: I used to live in Florida - for 2 1/2 years. While I never experienced a "full force" hurricane, two or three passed over nearby and left me with some incredible memories of some awesome clouds and wild displays of nature! I've never seen anything like the lightning I saw in Florida! Last night was close, but Florida isn't called the Lightning Capital of the World for nothing!! :p
