Everyone Vote!!

My friend is the registrar of voters for our county. We have had VERY interesting chats about voting habits.

His favorite statement is this:
Choosing not to vote is a vote for the person you don't want.

Remember to get informed about your local issues. You local administrators actually have an enormous impact on your quality of life in your community.

Yes, the federal representatives are important. But if you want to shape something that is going to have an immediate effect: your local leaders are it.

Read your local paper. Read your sample ballots. After the election attend your local town board and school board meetings!!

It has been 85 years since women have had the right to vote. God Bless America!

Boy Danna did you hit the nail on the head--all politics is local & all that. I work for municipal govmt & I can tell you that nothing on any other govmt level affects you more, at no level does your vote count more, and at no other level could you call a politician at home & complain about potholes on your street. Well, maybe you could but they probably wouldn't listen. }(

So many people are unaware that there are services & assistance at the local level that can accomplish much more than a letter or phone call to your US Senator's office. OK my colleagues out there are probably thinking about murder right now, but we're very accessible & helpful, and we don't spend all day staring out the window as so many seem to think.

BTW, how many of you out there know that NJ women had the right to vote from 1789 to about 1799? We're so progressive here LOL.

It even drives me crazier when celebrities spout their political viewpoints at concerts you pay top dollar for. I just want to hear Madonna sing "Material Girl" and not see humongous signs of a President Bush look-a-like hugging a Saddam look-a-like.

It's funny you mention that. I was listening to talk radio the other day and they mentioned a study that showed that when people have to listen to their favorite celebrities spout off about a particular candidate, many of the fans actually vote the OPPOSITE!! I guess it shows that people actually get annoyed by it. Bruce Springsteen should just shut up and do the one thing he's qualified to do, sing. Same with Madonna. Fans don't pay to hear their political viewpoints.
