epigastric hernia

Hi All! Just had surgery for this yesterday. Afterward, talking to the doc and he mentioning to me that I like to exercise :) I listed off: skating, swimming, KICKBOX, WEIGHTS, those last two especially raised his eyebrows as he told me I´d have to lay off. Re: the weights, especially and I asked him: FOREVER????. Well, no, but at least 6 weeks :(
He also mentioned that this is usually seen in men (75%) due to the lifting weight part! So...my questions:
1.If any of you have had this, tell me your experiences.
2. I THINK I can go 6 weeks w/o UB work (although when I told my DD that I´ll hate to lose my "look" she sang to me "You´re so vain" Yea, a little! So what did you do during this time?
3. Would LB work with DB be OK, as opposed to lifting a BB over my head?
4. Is this caused by poor form?

I really will work to NOT work out!! just because I really don´t want this to happen again, apparently the recurrance rate is like 10-12%, which I guess in the medical world is high.

Thanks for advice, suggestions, and PITY !!!
