Energy Drink

I drink 4 oz(1/2 of the 8.3 oz can) of Sugar Free Red Bull 15-20 minutes before I exercise. It gives me energy to wake up in the morning and exercise. I don't drink coffee or take anything else for energy. 1/2 can does the trick. So a 4 pack will last me 8 exercise days. Does anyone else drink an energy drink if so what kind or what do you take for energy?

Does Gatorade count? If so, then I drink it when I'm working out for 60+ minutes. If I don't, my blood sugar will crash and I have to stop. Anything but Gatorade cramps me up while working out.

Since "energy" drinks are usually full of either sugars or artificial stimulants, I don't use them. Instead, I'll go for some green teas, with just a bump of caffeine, and good antioxidants to boot (and ECGC, which is suppposed to increase metabolism and fat burning).

I am bad....I sometimes have 1-2 cans of those Red Bulls before I work out....I buy about 3-4 four packs a week.

I think Gatorade is a light energy drink without a lot of stimulants in it. I guess I will try Green Tea and see what happens. I do know that the people that advertises for Beachbody (Turbo Jam, Power 90, etc.) takes supplements and one of the supplements gives energy and helps your metabolism. None of them loss the weight naturally.

My daughter (who is 16) loves Red Bull and I was concerned because she would drink one every morning. I started buying the Sugar Free ones (10 calories) and she loved them. Well I tried them a few times before my workouts and now I'm hooked! (I don't know if that's good!) But I noticed it mainly in my cardio workouts - sometimes I found it hard to finish a cardio workout, but now I finish and still have energy.

I went online to see if there were any side effects to the ingredients. I think the main one is Taurine -- but I only checked a few places, so did not do an extensive search. The only concern I have in the Sugar Free ones is that they use Aspartame (as opposed to Splenda) and I think there have been some negative things about Aspartame (and other artificial sweeteners). Anyhow -- in answer to your question -- yes I do drink a Sugar Free Red Bull about 30 minutes prior to my workout (I only drink about half!), but that gives me much more energy!

I really wouldn't feel bad about Taurine. Taurine is a non-essential amino acid which plays a variety of roles in the normal functioning of the brain, heart, gallbladder, eyes, and vascular system. Doctors frequently use it as a supplement older hospitalized patients. So there really is some benefit to the drink as well as the niacin, B6 and B12. I only feel a smiggin guilty about the sugar and inactive ingredients....but I enjoy the results from using it more then I feel guilty... if that makes any sense. I am also not a total health nut about every single thing I eat or drink....just a part-time one ;).

Thanks for the input on this. I didn't think Taurine was bad (from what I could tell). My mom sent me all kinds of stuff about artificial sweeteners and their bad effects (you know how mothers are!). I usually use Splenda for everything (which wasn't included in the list), but Aspartame was and that was listed in Red Bull. I'm like you -- I enjoy the results and don't feel guilty!!!

I mostly use Splenda also for everything and if I drink a soda I always get the one with Splenda in it. I also enjoy the results that sugar free red bull gives me and I don't feel guilty about it. When I plan on exercising and don't drink it most likely I won't exercise for the day or stop within 10 minutes and go back to bed. Thanks for the input.
