Endo-chicks, unite!

Hope the ecto-chicks don't mind us borrowing their idea...:)

I wanted to see if there are any other big women out there who put on weight from just thinking about food but still make Cathe's workouts work for them. Carrying extra weight makes it a real challenge--I know that I take Cathe's words to heart and "modify, modify, modify!" I try to minimize the impact and bring the intensity down a notch (or two) so that I can get the benefits without stressing my joints too much. But like I have said before, Cathe is the best around, so it is worth it to find ways to make her videos work for me!

Anyone else out there who has a good 40-50 pounds or more to lose and wants to "dish" about the unique challenges of being a BIG Cathe fan (in more ways than one, hee hee) I'd love to hear from you!

Lauren :)

Hi Lauren,

I'm an endo-chick and I've been modifying Cathe to make it work for me for the last hundred pounds or so. I started with Cathe at 350lbs with MIS and had to "modify" the step warm up! :)

I've stuck with Cathe almost exclusively, straying only to add some kickboxing and hi/lo workouts for the cross training benefits, and the need for a low impact video or two. :)

I'm down now to "around" my last 30-ish pounds or so to lose, I think I'll feel comfortable around 140lbs, but even 150lbs might end up feeling just fine!

I found my biggest challenges initially to be plyo moves, air born moves (jacks, jumps, etc.), and the pace in general, but sticking with it daily forced me to improve my cardio capacity, and over time week by week I was able to modify less and less.

What do/did you find to be your biggest challenge?

Donna

Nice to meet you Donna,

WOW, you have lost over 100 lbs? Now that is inspiring!!! :)

I am a good 40 or so pounds over what would probably be considered the upper limit of a healthy weight range for me, and 55 lbs over my thinnest adult weight (but I doubt I'll be seeing THAT number on the scale again...best to set realistic goals!). In addition to all of the other good reasons to lose weight, I am motiviated by high cholesterol--I don't want to have to take medication for it, and I know exercise is supposed to help lower cholesterol, so I'm hoping to get results without meds.

My biggest challenge (in addition to having no natural athletic ability or inclination whatsoever) is worrying about injuries. My mom has arthritis in her knee and I've had an episode of tendonitis in my knees brought on by too much jumping in a non-Cathe video, so I am very aware of even the first twinge of discomfort. Also, the last time I had maintained a really good, steady exercise routine (mostly step) I developed a neuroma in my foot that eventually needed surgery. So, you can see how I'd be a bit paranoid about ANY impact whatsoever!

Also, on a practical level, I don't have a lot of space to workout, so I end up doing hamstring curls and knee-ups in place sometimes while Cathe and her crew are bouncing all around the set! :)

Glad to have connected with you--let's keep in touch with our progress!

Lauren

Yes, I have 40-50 lbs to lose :-mad ! I am working on it ! I have my workouts under wraps but not my eating :-hmmm. I don't think I am an endo though as I am 5 foot 8 inches, I have quite a small-medium frame. I don't look the weight I am in clothes, though I do naked in front of the mirror. People are surprised when I tell them how much I do weigh. I don't have huge hips, I am more straight up and down - hard to explain. I think I am more of a meso shape ? Maybe ? Oh, whatever, I still have the blasted weight to lose.
I do modify though where I can, due to a dodgy right knee, but I really love the strength work, it is making a hell of adifference to my core, it is much stronger :D and I like that.

Good to meet you Lauren ! Cathe is THE best, isn't she ? Have you discovered 'PLANKS' yet ? If not, you've got to start planking !!! :7

Anna :)

Hey ladies!

Sign me up for the endo-chicks. Even at my thinnest(back in the stone age) I had plenty of T & A. I tend to hold my fat in the stomach and tush, and I'm looking a little pear shaped these days. I think I will always be far too curvy for my liking. I am having a hard time forcing myself to do Power Hour lately. I love cardio, and could happily do it every day. Weights are just so exhausting, and I feel like such a sissy. Whine, whine, whine. Are we doing a weigh-in weekly? I kind of hope not, since I've been trying to ignore the scale, instead of my usual 3x per day weighing. Can anyone give me an idea of a celebrity or famous person who's an endo, with their weight controlled and fit? Kind of like a goal?

Whoohoo! I am so psyched by the response to this thread! Of course, ecto-chicks are welcome to visit, just try not to overwhelm us with your natural abundance of energy... :)

As for a weigh-in...lordy, I had NO intention of doing that! I don't have a scale at home, but I occasionally weigh myself at work (we have a scale for our research study) and the results are never encouraging. I try to tell myself I'm gaining muscle, and it's true that I am feeling MUCH more fit since I got back into regular exercising, but the weight is really not budging yet. Probably because, even though I do a moderate amount of exercise, my diet is NOT under control yet. Oh well, just one more thing to work towards...

In terms of a role model, I hesitate to mention an instructor besides Cathe for fear of reprisals (hee hee) but I find Gin Miller to be really inspiring. I do her Intense Moves video and it is clear that, while she is in fabulous shape, she is no skinnie minnie! I tell myself that with a TON of hard work I could look like that (or close to it) some day, whereas it's just not in my genetic makeup to ever look like the very petite Cathe. And Anna, as for the endo, meso stuff, I'm not sure how I really, technically would be classified. Like you, I don't look as heavy as my actual weight (thank goodness!), I guess because I tend to put on weight pretty evenly over my whole body!

Well, once again, I am thrilled to be meeting all of you and I hope we can keep on encouraging each other!

Yet another endo chiming in here. I too am glad we're not starting an endo weigh in. With Thanksgiving coming up in less than a week, I would probably cry if I saw what the scale said I weighed. Technically, I have kind of cleaned up my eating. However, my 1yr is sooooo full of energy and curiosity (he just learned to walk) and chasing after him is an aerobic workout in itself, I just haven't had the motivation that I use to have to pop in the tape and start sweating up a storm. Donna is my hero though I sooooooooo need a dose of whatever she has to make my big bottom self get up and get moving. I'm thinking the article I read about the colder months have a tendency to make people feel sluggish and less likely to want to exercise is true. My b/f keeps the house way too warm to my liking and I can't stand a warm environment when exercising because of the extra weight I sweat quicker and my body temperature rises faster. He watches our son while I exercise when he gets home from work. However, complains when I turn on the A/C to cool down the house. Granted, I know its the getting colder but we only have 1 TV and its in the living room. Okay but enough babbling from me, I can stray from a topic quicker than I don't know what.
My personal exercise rotation before baby was pretty high impact even though I weighed in at 200lbs. I had a gym membership at Crunch gym back in those days and I loved to strength train on the machines. I really think that played an initial part in why I weighed so much but people never thought I looked the weight that I was and why I could wear a size 14/16. Well, that and I love to eat take out chinese and would do so almost every night. Otherwise, I think I probably could have dropped even more weight but I was happy and confident at that size. Its that feel good about myself when I look in the mirror confidence that I want back. I have to admit my b/f he's a keeper he always there to tell me he loves me and finds me attractive regardless. Unfortunately, I don't like myself the way I look now as apposed to then, and so his words of love usually fall on deaf ears. Does anyone else have this problem? Your b/f or hubby tells you look great and you look at him as if he's crazy and tell him "Are you blind, have you seen how wide my hips are and how big my stomach and butt are?"
