Emergency help needed

Please if anyone can help, I need it ASAP. My cousins daughter 24 is pregnant and will be ready to deliver anyday. She was just diagnosed with a serious liver condition,ICP, related to impaired bile flow and toxic buildup of bile. It is associated with hemorrhaging during delivery and still birth of infant. If it was picked up earlier (and it should have been) in could have been managed. Also recommened is delivery of the baby at 36-37 weeks. It is too late for that. She is at a small community hospital and I am trying to find someone to help, who knows what they are doing..even if it means having her come to Philly but I don't know if anyone would take her so late. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Cathy, I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin's daughter. What is her doctor suggesting she do? Are they going to refer her to another physician? From your post I'm assuming the baby is okay right now but needs to be delivered immediately, right? Can she be taken by helicopter to a bigger hospital for better medical care? I think I would call around to some hospitals and see if they can help. Sorry, I don't have any answers. I hope someone has an answer for you.

If it were me, I would demand a transfer to a high-risk facility. I live in a small area, and some of the local doctors seem offended if you request a referral to St. Louis. It must be an ego thing. The OBs are not as resistant probably for fear of malpractive suits. I would demand a referral. I am surprised her doc didn't refer her.

I pray for a healthy mom and baby!

Thanks everyone, I did find a maternal/fetal expert in the philly area who takes care of high risk pregnancies (high risk to both Mon\m and baby) and they have been in contact with my cousin and her daughter. I shall keep you posted.
