elevated chest press and FUNNY story

Hi Cathe!

1. Why, in CST, do we move from chest presses on horizontal bench to presses on an incline? Which muscles does the incline work more??

2. This is very funny.... Last night, as I was finishing up CST, my husband came home from work and found me doing tricep dips.... He said, wow, look at the definition! (referring to ME!) And then I said, yeah, but I still have all this flab on my stomach...

And he said. ... you're genetically built that way. it's beautiful... you were meant to have babies...

At which point I pointed to you, Cathe, on the screen and said "Look at her stomach, she just had a baby... Look at that"..

And he said "I know ... She must of squeezed it in there somehow!"

Anyway I thought this was really funny and am still smiling about it. He's a good man, but I still wish I had your abs!

Thanks for everything!

Laura

Hi Laura!

That was cute and funny. Your husband sounds like a terrific guy.

The reason we switch to an incline position during our bench press exercises is to target the muscles from a slightly different angle. Being on an incline targets the upper chest a bit more specifically.

Laura. . .

I had to laugh when you said your honey complimented you on your triceps definition and then you said "yeah, BUT. . . " --that is such a WOMAN reaction! Why do we women do that? We get a compliment and our first response is "yeah, but. . ." I think your honey's response was a classic, bless his heart! I frequently lament my marshmallow middle too. Can't you just imagine our Cathe in labor? I imagine that with one MIGHTY SQUEEZE of those incredible abs, little Eric sailed across the room, and I can just see Jon running across the back of the room, jumping mightily, and tucking little Eric under his arm, then trotting over to the doctor with him. The doctor stands open-mouthed, and says "wow. . . i am speechless. . . ."

Words of Wisdom

Just have to add my 2 cents. Whenever someone compliments you, the best response is "thank you", no matter how tempted you are to add the BUT. One reason is that the other person would never notice the thing that you think is a negative about yourself. After you point it out, then they will REALLY look for it. I try to never mention anything to my husband that I think is a flaw, because he thinks I am perfect (and I don't want to ruin the illusion! LOL )

Susan & Abbe!

Susan- that's my all time phrase- Yeah, but!!!(especially to my hubby!) WHY DO WE DO THAT??? ...and Abbe, I am going to try your method next time and just say THANKS!!! Susan, your story of Cathe's delivery was waaaaaaay too funny!! I'm still LOL!
