Ectochick Check 10/13

Hi Georgia!!

Not sure how to train! But it wasn't a spur of the moment type thing. I've ran in the past, against my wishes some days, with my husband. ;)He's a tough coach- always pushing me to go that extra lap on the track at the gym or parking the car so that I had no choice but to run back to it to get a ride home!! It's been a while since I've done any outdoor running. But I guess my stairstepper, step aerobics and jumproping have helped to keep me in shape cardiovascular wise!

Once I decided to do the 5K I went to the library to check out some books, something I've done in the past also. But I think my DH was the most helpful giving tips on breathing, posture and pace. I will admit I did not care for the late November/early December runs! :) But I may have to find a way to deal with it if I decide I'd like to run more 5K's. This website that lists other races in the St. Louis metropolitan area has race dates as late as Dec.14th! There's one near my house in Collinsville next weekend - the Freaky 5K, starts at 5:55 p.m. Now that sounds like fun! Think the onlookers will throw candy to us?! :)

But I am looking for bits of info in the books for a safe, beginner/intermediate training chart. I think I could work my way up to doing a 10K in the spring.

Are you a runner or like me, dream of running? :)

Hi Julie, thanks for the ideas, I'll have to try some of your suggestions. I too, tire of MIS, I throw it in sometimes instead of PH, but I look at Friday as my fun day with PH (love that tape!!!) I rarely stick in MIS in place of it. I don't have a DVD, but you know what I do instead (I'm hoping this is legal, cause it's for my own use and jail would definitely put a crimp in my w/o routine), for instance, the S&H upper body split, I would tape all the exercises in the order that I want on another VHS and then play that on my S&H upperbody day. A little bit of work, but it's been worth it for me and maybe one day I will catch up with the world in terms of technology. Man you guys must live in the city, middle eastern dance class would definitely make my workout more interesting!!!!, we're lucky to have square dancing (and I'm sure we don't even have that) here in the sticks. That must be a blast!!!

Briee :) :) :)

Hi Georgia, check out my thread that I posted about two months ago, when I was planning on running a 5K. Everyone gave me lots of advise including a few good books to read. I don't know how to cut and paste it in here, but do a search under subject, open forum, "Runner's out there?" for the last three months. It will come up. Hope this helps a little.

Briee

Thanks pfive and briee. I'll do a search and read through the thread.

pfive-I ran in highschool. CC and Track. That was 11yrs ago. I still run, just for fitness. I've been thinking of doing the 5k for sometime now I just don't know WHEN I can do it. I'm gonna keep an eye on your rotation and see how you do it, if you don't mind.

Angela-your dance class sounds fun. I took ballet last year. I would like to do it again some day, but it's hard to find the time. I have a big family and there's always something going on. (which is a good thing)

Well it's my regret to say I've been sick the past 2 days. A stomach virus with fever and chills. Did not workout yesterday. I'm hoping this evening I'll feel better and can do PS:CST. So my rotation for this week is messed up. I'll have to play it by ear now. Man, being sick is so darn incovenient.

Georgia,

I'll try to keep track of my running times and post them here. (Guess I should buy one of those mini notebooks to record my stats.)Tuesday evening it took me a while to get my 3 miles in because I chose the random hills setting on the treadmill - great workout! Last night I rested, so tonight and tomorrow are weight training days for me - legs/calves and back/biceps. If you have any tips to offer please do. My plan is to basically run twice a week, one of those days outside for as long as I can stand the weather.

I'm also going to look for brie's post re: running. Brie? Thanks in advance! :) Can't wait to see what book recommendations were made. Hopefully the one's I've checked out from the library made the cut! Borders has a 25% off weekend coming up for educators and my sister's a teacher, so you know what that means?! :):)

Time to go searching! :)

Ailin' Ecto

Hi Georgia,

Sorry to hear you've been sick! I'd rather have almost anything than a stomach virus. Hope you'll take it easy on the workout tonite, if you decide to try it.

A friend suggested the "bellydance" lessons to cheer me up after my divorce. It's been a lot of fun and it really does work the abs - especially the obliques.

Take it easy!

RE: Ailin' Ecto

Angela, I just took a look at your profile and saw that you had a picture in there. That is so neat, you look great. I wish I could see pictures of everyone who posts here, just to have a face to place with the name. My mom lives in Bella Vista, Arkansa, retired there, so I get down there every so often. Just curious, how did you post your picture there???

On a funny note, during the birth of our last baby I had read that some woman did belly dancing to help the baby come down the birth canal, so I tried this and had a really easy delivery. I think many things contributed to this, but the movement of the belly dancing seemed to help get the baby in the right position!!

RE: Ailin' Ecto

Hi Briee!

Thanks for the compliment! Posting a picture on your profile is pretty easy if you have access to some server space. We get 5MB of server space - for non-commercial purposes - free with our home email account. You either shoot a pic with a digital camera or scan a photo, turn it into a jpg, upload it to your host's server, then enter the Web address in the blank on your profile.

Bella Vista is a great retirement community. Northwest Arkansas is probably the prettiest part of the state, up in the Ozark mountains. We live in the Little Rock metro area. I was born and raised here.

Yes, I've heard that bellydance is very beneficial for preparing the muscles for labor. In fact, one of my friends is big pregnant with her third and she was teaching the advanced class Tuesday night!

RE: Ailin' Ecto

Well, thanks, Robin! You made my day!

Actually, that pic was taken a couple of months ago - maybe longer - I've made some progress since then. Even my doubting Thomas hubby is starting to raise his eyebrows when I flex for him. Ha. Maybe I'll post a new pic in a few weeks. I wish I'd taken a "before" photo when I was at my sickest and in the worst shape. I weighed about 90 pounds and had Prednisone "moon face." I was too ashamed to have a picture made, so I can't send my success story in to M & F Hers. LOL

I wish more people would post photos. I'm a very visual person - I love to see faces!

Hey, I think it's pretty cool: we kept our "ecto" thread active all week. Hope y'all have a relaxing, fun weekend!

Angela
