how many of you don't eat 5-6 meals a day? i do but now i'm reading that it doesn't matter anymore and that it really doesn't increase your metabolism and you should do whatever works best for you. Also, how many of you follow the no eating past a certain time at night? What do you do if your really hungry? I always eat cottage cheese and peanut butter right before bed but was curious b/c i know a lot of you read tosca's eat clean book and she recommends this. Do you do something else to make you not think about food at night?

I think you will find that people do different things. The idea of 5-6 smaller meals has a couple of purposes. It keeps you satiated so you don't get to the point of feeling ravenous. I do believe it keeps your metabolism revved, especially if you are lifting & trying to feed repairing/growing muscles. If you don't need that many meals, certainly you should reduce it. Try to keep each meal a good balance of healthy carbs/fat/protein. I don't think the eating at night thing matters one way or the other. If you're hungry, then you should eat.

I usually eat 3 times a day. I have tried the 6 meals a day but I am not good at portioning the meals out that way. I also always feel hungry eating 6 meals a day. I am perfectly happy with my 3 meals. Every once in awhile if I do say BM2 the whole way through I will have a handful of nuts.

I usually eat 3 meals, however, I eat lunch at noon and dinner between 7 and 8. I try to have a good snack in the afternoon (almost a mini meal) so I can make it until dinnertime without snacking on every piece of food I see. I have tried 5-6 meals but I am so busy at work that I can't do it.

I eat 3 meals plus 2 snacks a day, so I guess it works out to eating 5x a day (sometimes 6). I do it because if I don't, my blood sugar drops, I get irritable, cranky, and will overeat during my next meal. I have to choose healthy foods with a good balance of protein and complex carbs or I get a blood sugar spike which makes me feel worse. I can literally feel the changes as I go beyond when I should be eating. I'm not hypoglycemic per se, but I am sensitive to not eating every 3 hours.
