Eating Healthy Thread...

Cathlete
Hello everyone. Here is the Eating Healthy Thread. Thought i'd make a start. Its very late here (England) nearly 12pm so i will sign in tomorrow with my food and exercise for the day.

This thread is for anyone wanting support, information (on the different plans were all doing), and motivation.

I will be following a calorie controlled diet. My calories are on the higher side (due to gender, metabolism and muscle mass) so i can usually lose weight on around 2,500 and 2,800 a day.

Hope to see you all tomorrow.

Wayne.

Hi Wayne....this should be a fun thread. I am still following the "Eat to Live" plan or should I say just vegetarian...:)...I did track my calories on Fitday.com when I started and they seemed to be around 1600-1700 only because you have to eat ALOT of vegeys to get calories!

I have finished a P90X rotation, doing a S&H plus Pyramid Cathe rotation for 3 weeks then going back to P90X. I actually lost more weight than I thought I would and seriously have never felt better in my life.

Can't wait to read the posts tomorrow....:)...Carole

Well, all right. Let's see ...

Breakfast was my usual - low fat waffles (2) with sugar free strawberry jelly (2 teaspoons) and two teaspoons of peanut butter for protein. I drink coffee in the AM with low fat Coffee Mate.

I did Imax Xtreme this morning!!!!!!!!!!!! Kicked my behind but loved it!! Drank an entire liter of water during that one!

Lunch was a Nutra Grain bar since we were on the run to Nik's first North Ohio Youth Orchestra rehearsal. Didn't plan well for the length and ended up eating a Twix bar from a vending machine. Wolfing it was more like it - LOL!! I also drank a half liter of water.

Dinner was a huge salad with beans, beets, cukes, fat free Italian dressing, onions, black olives, carrots, and tomatoes. YUM!! I also had two slices of garlic bread (without cheese though!). Drank another half liter of water.

Then I did Core Strength. I missed three days earlier this week because I was sick, and I wanted to make at least one of them up. Drank a liter of water.

That's it! Not my best day ... but now that I know what to expect every Sunday afternoon with NOYO (she rehearses all during the school year!), I'll be able to plan better.

Carole,

How long ago did you start "Eat to Live"? Have you seen a difference?

Right now I'm basically following the advice of a book (OOP but available used) called "How to be Naturally Thin by Eating More"..it basically says to eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full (more complicated than it sounds actually!) and that your body will "let go" of fat that it has held on to as a result of previous dieting, but it doesn't tell you what to eat. I'm hoping that Eat to Live would be a good companion to it, since there's no restrictions on when/how much you can eat.

I've read the book and really wanted to strictly follow it but can't right now (dorming, needless to say, there isn't a bean/legume in sight)...though I have been taking bits of advice from the book and am already vegetarian to start with.

I'm going to try it out more strictly when I go home for vacation in December. I'd really like to hear how others following this way of eating are doing!

Take Care,

Kathleen

Morning everyone.

I'm tring to eat 6-7 times a day. About 350-400 calories per meal. Ths is how my day looks.

Cottage Cheese with oatmeal
Protein Shake
Chicken slices with apple
Cottage cheese banana
Hard Boiled eggs (2) with apple
Chicken slices with banana

I would love to have a go at the Eat to Live program but i'm a little scared as (for me) i'm used to eating a good amount of protein.

Exercise today will be Chin up (as many as i can do throught the day)
Plus 10 sets of 5 reps of biceps curls (with 35lbs weight) and 5 sets of 5 reps of shoulder presses. Plus Abs (Cathe Bootcamp).

Kathleen...I've done "Eat to Live" since about mid may. I didn't intend to go vegetarian right off, but my DH wanted to after about a week so we did. Like Wayne...I was concerned about not getting enough protein as I had been following the Zone and was eating about 120g of protein daily. I had been using some whey protein powder and since at the same time I started ETL I also started a P90X rotation I kept using the powder ( got some soy protein powder too), especially after my workouts. I probably get about 60-80g of protein now. The first 2 weeks on ETL I did have some weakness when I would do a long run (10-12 miles), but never during my other workouts. In 6 weeks my DH had lost 19lbs and I had lost 16. He is now down 30 and I am down 21. I never lost this much weight so easily. Even on the Zone. I am very curious to have my cholesterol checked and I will in a couple of months. I am trying to be a vegetarian as a way of life. I know in a dorm it would be difficult to follow, but since you are a vegetarian already you do have a head start!

My day looks like this:
coffee...:)...half a Genisoy protein bar before my workout
Breakfast: Smoothie (2 cups assorted fruit, 1T ground flaxseed, 1 scoop protein powder,3/4 cup soymilk)
Lunch: Salad with some kind of beans mixed in the greens, Zesty Italian dressing, 3-4 cups cut up watermelon (or other fruit)
Snack: some fruit and some walnuts
Dinner: Salad, and a Tofu stir fry from the ETL book
Dessert: Another smoothie that DH and I split.

For my workout S&H legs and shoulders and about 30-40 minutes of cardio......:)...Carole

"Eat to Live?" LOL! No offense, but that's pretty funny. Don't you have to eat to live? I guess it's better than living to eat LOL.

Anyway, I did Rhythmic Step this morning, & I'm back on Atkins, so here's my meal plan for the day:

Breakfast: 2 hard boiled eggs (already had this morning)
Lunch: 2 hot dogs & a garden salad
Dinner: Antipasto

Today'll be easy for me b/c I have a council mtg tonight so will be at work until about midnight. No problem worrying about snacking when I'm at work.

As we have rescheduled our vacation to Mexico due to Ivan, I can start posting to this thread now. Woopee!

I will continue to eat South Beach Diet Phase I

Breakfast: Egg and green pepper frittata (two eggs), coffee
Snack: Medifast Grow protein powder
Lunch: Huge salad with spinach, raddicho, grape tomatoes and chicken
Snack: Cottage cheese and sugar free jello
Snack: 1/2 cup pistachio nuts and another protein drink
Dinner: 1/2 lb veggies (cauliflower, broccoli, sugar snap peas, red pepper) topped with 1.5 ounces of 2% cheddar cheese
Snack: 1/2 cup part skim ricotta cheese with flavoring
Snack: sugar free fudgecicle

Total calories approx 1200
Total protein approx 120 grams

Hi Wayne! Great thread! I usually eat 5 small meals a day zig zagging my calories (5 low carb days & 2 high carb days). However, I don't count calories. Today's Monday & its a low carb day so here's what I'm eating:

Meal 1: 1/3 c steel cut oatmeal w/1 scoop protein powder & coffee
Meal 2: 1 c vanilla fat free yogurt w/no sugar granola
Meal 3: 5 oz. tilapia & mixed veggies & small pear
Meal 4: large mixed green salad w/carrots, roasted red pepper, artichoke hearts, grape tomatoes & 3 oz. chicken
Meal 5: protein shake

I workout at 7:30 p.m. & tonight's cardio. Wayne, I'd like some input from you as I'm confused what to eat before & after my workouts. Sometimes I don't finish up my workout until 8:45 p.m. What should I eat this late at night? Isn't there some rule that your not supposed to eat anything 3 hrs. before bedtime? I usually will have either some chicken/turkey/fish w/veggies before my strength training but I don't finish this meal until 7:00 or 7:10. Can you help me? I'm very lean as it is but could do with dropping a little bit more body fat. HELP! TIA, Kathy:D

Great thread. I love the accountability factor; helps me stay motivated. I am following BFL was gone for the weekend at agility and conformation shows and the hospital visiting my dad so we didn't shop. Meaning today is a little more lax than normal:

Healthy choice turkey, mashed potatoes (yes for breakfast :) )
Chicken, corn tortillas, FF cheese, FF caeser dressing

1/2 serving chicken, 1/2 serving pork tenderloin, corn on the cob

Hopefully going shopping tonight if we have time so tomorrow's menu won't be so boring and no packaged foods!

I'm back!! Did Push Pull this morning.

Breakfast was the waffles thing from yesterday again, plus coffee.

Lunch was a fat free tuna sandwich on a whole wheat bagle, and a pickle.

I'm going to have a Smart Ones frozen dinner for dinner because they're quick and easy, and tonight is one of many music lessons for my daughter!

If I get hungry later (which I'm sure I will!), I will have a plum and perhaps some low fat graham crackers. ((But I want chocolate!!! LOL!!))

Hey Maximus!! Those tomatoes were part of a pasta salad which I planned on having for lunch but my 10 year old got to it first, picked out ALL the pasta and that's all she left me, those darned kids!:p :) Too funny!

Though i pretty much stayed within my calorie limits (i think) i made very poor choices. Did someone say sweet? Then count me in. But within my calories so i guess that's ok right? I think not...

Tomorrow i'm gonna buy some fruit. Lots of it. And eat that in replace of the "skank" that i eat along with my chicken, protein foods etc...trust me chicken slices and a mars bar ain't that good! Exercise today was chins and press ups plus arms. That done.

Abs...forgot them. Though did order an ab thingy from TV. Will it work. Sure, if i use it. Do crunches work just as well...ab-so-lutly!

Night Night everyone. Its midnight here.

PS - saw the moive Super Size Me today. Very good. Anyone else seen it?

See you all in the morning.

Everyone is doing great.

Wayne.
