Eating Disorders and Terry Schiavo

How much is too much?

I don't think you'll get a straight answer from anyone on that.

I read an article in the NY Times about it. A Dr. that takes care of runners after the marathon said he'd rather treat someone for dehydration as it was an easier fix.

I shoot for "just enough", most of the stuff I've read in my outdoor literature says to drink enough to keep your urine clear and odorless. If it starts getting dark or stinkin" you ain't doing enough drinkin'.

Terri's father and brother were interviewed this week about the bulimia/heart attack and they said that they do not know what caused the heart attack. As far as they knew, she did not have bulimia. The media really knows how to distort the facts.

They ahd to have known that it was a possible cause:

"In 1992, a medical malpractice suit was brought against Schiavo's medical care providers. The jury concluded that Schiavo suffered from bulimia, which caused her chemical imbalance and subsequent cardiac arrest and had not been properly diagnosed by the hospital. The hospital appealed, and the case was settled in 1993 before the appeal could be decided, with Terri Schiavo receiving $750,000 and Michael Schiavo receiving $300,000 from the hospital. Florida's Second District Court later also found that Schiavo suffered a cardiac arrest as a result of a potassium imbalance."

Terri's father, brother and other supporters have all but accused Terri's husband of trying to murder her. The only people I believe are the doctors who've worked on her case. And they're not saying much, other than her heart was damaged from an eating disorder.

Aside from heart damage, anorexia/bulemia can also lead to permanent liver damage and infertility. I agree with everyone. Not enough media attention is drawn to this problem. There's even websites out there teaching young girls about this practice. Mary Kate Olsen is worshipped on these sites as being the "ideal" image to strive for. It's really sad.
