Eating and STS

Hi everyone! DH and I are doing STS together and we're on week #2, but actually it is our third week on the program since we did the first week twice. Anyway, I am noticing how hungry I am lately. I'm not new to weight training so I'm puzzled why I feel so hungry on this particular program.

Any thoughts? I am 5'9", 140 pounds and I eat around 1800ish calories a day, plus plenty of protein. For you guys further along in the program, have you noticed this? Have you increased your calories? Thanks in advance!

Patti,

DH and I are on the 3rd week of Mesocycle 2 and we have experienced increased hunger the entire time. I actually have been dreaming about food! We have been limiting our calories (with great results) so we have been chewing A LOT of gum and drinking water to help suppress the tummy monster! :)

Funny, I was just talking about this in one of the check-ins. I too am extra hungry a lot of the time. I am trying to follow weight watchers and I have been going way over my points allowance. I have not gained and the clothes are fitting better, but my points are way over.

Absolutely, I wake up in the middle of the night with a growling tummy at times! I can't say that I've drastically increased my calories, I've just chosen smarter foods. More protein and fiber and I tend to eat one extra snack a day (usually between breakfast and lunch) and I'm good. I didn't want to really increase the calories because I have been seeing good results (pants fitting loser, shedding a couple lbs, etc) and I'd like to see it continue!

Same here! About 1 week into STS, I was ravenous! Unfortunately, initially, I ended up eating more junk food (not good). Then about 2 wks ago, I refocused & got back to weight watchers & have been choosing better foods. I still am going over my points some (probably eating around 1800-2000 cals), but actually have lost about 1/2-1 inch from my waist & hips in the last 2 wks. I started adding a protein shake or protein bar on top of my regular meals. That has helped a lot, but I too sometimes awaken in the middle of the night with the munchies or am starving in the morning! But it's worth the results!

<Sigh> OK you guys are making me feel better and worse at the same time! :p It's nice to know it isn't just in my head but man, yesterday I was ready to EAT. I resisted, drank some tea and did OK but it was hard. Then today I was trying on a couple of new tops from Old Navy for summer and wow, I already have some nice new definition in my arms! It's worth it. It's just hard! I definitely think that 1200 calories wouldn't cut it with this system- no way, especially with the amount of cardio we're doing. But it's good to know I'm not alone. :) Thanks!

Oh yeah, I couldn't live on 1200 calories with STS! I eat between 1400-1600 for the most part, maybe a little bit more on the weekend and stuff...

I would suggest (if you are not already doing so) that you drink a recovery drink immediately following the workout. for me personally, I prefer Hammer Nutrition's Chai flavored whey protein mixed with chocolate almond milk. it is just the perfect amount of kcals and is a delicious treat for my hard work! for cardio workouts I use Hammer Nutrition's Recoverite. I am a cyclist and do a lot of endurance rides/races, so you have to learn about fueling your body right! having more hunger is not all bad, but focus on smaller meals more frequently thruout your day (i.e., eat every 3-4 hrs, and split your daily kcals up in those meals).
