DYNA BANDS

What is the actual pupose of using the Dynband? I know that it can't build muscle, so, is it to fatigue the muscle maybe?

The bands give a burn and work the muscles in a way weights simply cannot. Cathe calls it a "bonus burn" and you can really, really feel it if you do it right.

The bands provide constant tension on the muscles and are much more efficient, whereas weights create less resistance when arms or legs are bent at at more acute angles - like in bicep curls there is less resistance the further you curl up, same with tricep extensions, leg presses, etc. Weights are still wonderful and work great for strength gains and will still fatigue your muscles, but the bands work your muscles in a way that weights cannot by working every bit of your full range of motion.

OW, you can really feel that band burn. I ordered several of them last month cuz they do tend to break. They are wonderful, though.

Thanks Guys...with all that being said, what does the band actually do to the muscle versus the weight? I am trying to figure out what the purpose of the band is? I don't think it builds the muscle! Does it fatigue the muscle which in turn helps the muscle change shape or make it bigger while combining it with the dumbbell or barbell. I hope I am making sense?

the bands build more endurance than strength. that's why it's so good to tack on to a weight workout. muscle max is a good example (tri's and shoulders in particular)

I don't think bands are going to add a lot of bulk or size to the muscle...but it makes different muscle fibers fire to do the work, therefore increasing some strength and endurance. I think it is more of a conditioning tool.

This is a good question for "Ask Cathe"...you should post it there! I would like to read her answer.

In my opinion -if it is worth- it DOES build muscle. Cathe uses the medium tension, though, and she probably uses it as a "bonus". But if you were to use a higher tension band, you would have to be very strong and you could get substancial muscle gains. They can also be used "Slow and Heavy" style.

The most significant muscle gains I have ever made in my life were when I was using Bodylastics. They are not bands, but they are elastic tubes.

To conclude: IMO Weights are wonderful but they are not the only source of resistance. Resistance is resistance is resistance is resistance...
