DVD cases really annoy me

I wish DVD makers would come up with a secure and easy-on-the-disc DVD case. I've had two instances where I received DVDs through the mail that were rattling loose in their cases when they arrived. They had superficial scratches on them but other than that, they played fine. Then months later I notice that these same DVDs developed cracks in the centre opening of the disc. This bothered me so bad that I bought a replacement copy of one of the DVDs. Has anyone had this happen to them where DVDs they received loose in their cases later developed these cracks that weren't there on the disc to begin with? Why can't DVD manufacturers make the centre clip similiar to that of CD jewel cases as I find those much more durable and easy to remove the disc from.

Edited for typos.

I do not keep my DVDs in their original case. I put them in a CD wallet. Mine has the hard surface (just in case my kids step/drop it) and usually fit 20-24 DVDs. It makes my 'collection' looks smaller (I have one for Cathe, one for others). I think it's easier to take them in/out too. Yes, I have received several DVDs with the DVD loose in the case... and had scratch marks as a result.

And doesn't it always seem that the DVD's that fall of in transit are also those that are hard as @$&%*( to remove from that darn thingy in the middle! I don't know what's worse: a "too loose" center holder, or a "too tight" one.

It IS possible for them to use effective and safe holders: I recently get a DVD that had the PERFECT center holder. It held the DVD securely, but it was easy to remove the DVD because there was some sort of snap device that you pushed down on (and it actually worked the way it was supposed to).

I think the really good cases are called Amaray cases. We buy them blank on Ebay and replace our cases so as not to damage DVD taking them in and out
