Dumb question re 4 Day Split

Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't find the answer in the DVD section. I'm generally incapable of doing Cathe cardio, but am considering buying the 4 Day Split for the strength training. This is probably a dumb question because Cathe's workouts are always so well chaptered, but is it easy to just do the strength on these DVDs? Is my understanding correct that there are 4 30-min. strength sessions in the package? Thanks.

Nancy~ It is easy to do just the strength training. You can cue up the dvd to the premix of: weights first option. This way, you have the warmup first, then do the weight work, then ff to the cool down. There are a ton of weight work premix options also on 4DS. Besides the weight work first option, there is: legs only premix/ chest, shoulders, tri premix/ back and bi premix/ weights only whole body premix and upper body weights only premix. I think its a must have dvd!!

And the cardio is fun, you may want to try it;-)!!
The kickbox is my #1 favorite of all Cathe's kickbox }(

You know, Nance, I was doing 4DS last week and thought to myself, "why doesn't Nance have this?" I myself rarely do anything but the kickboxing and the weight segments. I say go for it. :)

YES YES YES you should totally purchase this for the weight/core work alone!!! I split up the 4-Day Split into weight sections only days and it works just fine. The other days I do my cardio (LIS, Boot Camp, and sub in other cardio that I like.) This is by far my favorite Cathe DVDs.

You might want to give Boot Camp a try--it's very straight forward to follow, just a lot of impact. But it's really good cardio, in my humble opinion. :)

Okay, ladies, words like "impact" and "kickboxing" are just going to scare me away. ;) Seriously, though, what is it that you like about the weight training in these DVDs? I'd really like to know. Thanks!

It goes by incredibly fast, considering it's a Cathe weight workout. And that doesn't mean it is easy, considering it's a Cathe weight workout. She's grabbing 30s and i think a 35+ sometimes.

You do a lot of reps off the count of the music, which you need to do since it's relatively heavy weight. But since the time is so short, it really makes it doable. She generally does push/pull in each of them, with 4-5 different mini-chapters: you do however many reps of a chest exercise, then a back exercise, and sometimes repeat those 2 exercises before moving on to the next chest/bag segment. A lot of familiar moves, but some nice new additions too.

Hurry up and buy the darn thing so I can stop singing its praises. :p You need a post-vacay pick-me-up anyway, don't you?? }(

I really like the legs premix. It runs 30 minutes but works my legs better than 30 min of gym style legs. I especially love the forward squats on the board and the low plane lunges. My legs have gotten stronger just in doing this workout 3 times-amazing. I'm not quite as thrilled with the upper body. The chest/back is good becuase it uses the push=pull format. The shoulders workout goes way to fast IMHO. No 2-2 counts-just 1-1. Bis and tris are ok but who wants to do 30 minutes of bis and tris anyway? I felt like the time she took to change up equipment was too long in the bis/tris workout.
I love the bootcamp workout. For anyone else reading this thread who likes cardio, this is one of the most fun workouts Cathe has made, if you have gotten tired of trying to follow choreography while your heart rate is 170. You are just running and hopping and jumping around like a kid again. No thinking required. The time flies by. Kickbox was just ok for me. It is like a shortened version of cardiokicks. Very different from KPC and kickmax.

Ha ha, Beth I LOVE doing 30 minutes of biceps & triceps!!!!! I feel firmed up after doing this workout. But I agree with you on the bootcamp cardio--fun and easy to learn and is a GREAT cardio workout!

Nancy--What I love about 4DS is you can work your muscles really hard in like 30 minutes. Some of the moves are unique, and I especially love the shoulder, biceps & triceps, and leg workouts. Chest and back is good, too, but a little too many push ups for my taste. :)

And the core work is unique, too, and I really love that as well. The music is good...I could go on and on, but it's totally worth getting and substituting the cardio if you don't like that part.

Convinced yet????????

Thanks, folks. Would you say that each of the strength training portions are about 30 mins? I can barely manage 20 mins. on weekdays.

ETA: Ame, the reason I'm hesitating to buy is because I have much guilt over all the workouts I've purchased recently that I just don't like very much. Too bad DVDs aren't returnable. :(

I hear you Nance. I've got a couple I regret. Okay, LOL, more than a couple!!!

Kathy makes a very good point about the different "rounds"-- you don't need to do all 4-5 rounds if you don't have the time. You can do only 3 of them or whatever you do have time for, and still work both chest and back, or bis and tris, etc.

You've mentioned in the past you really enjoy the shoulder work in PH; I think of you having said that whenever I do shoulders in 4DS for some reason! :)

I don't know if there is a way to preview the weight work someplace?

ETA: Nance, go to the previews under the DVD tab. The weight workout preview is about 3/4 of the way through the preview, and seems to cover it enough so you can get the gist of the series and decide on it. :)

Nancy,

I preordered 4DS and the first thing I tackled was the wieght work....I did a weight rotation with it for the first month. I think I had it 6 months before I attempted any of the cardio. ...NOw...I love every workout on there....
