So, am I the only one who's excited for season 3 of Downton Abbey? I'm spending the last day of my vacation rewatching a few episodes from season 1. Looking forward to Sunday!

I broke down and bought the three season package for PBS fundraising program!!

It will arrive around Jan 11th. Soooo excited. I'll have to restrain myself to begin watching from the beginning. Apparently there are hours of extras!:eek:

Can't wait!!

Hi Baylian!

No, you are definitely not the only one who's excited about the return of Downton Abbey. I absolutely love this series. I discovered it for the first time last year for Seaon 2. Some things didn't make total sense since I missed the first season, but I was quickly addicted. The acting is incredible. My favorite is Maggie Smith as the Dowager Countess. How about you? Who do you like best? I have purchased the first season so I could completely catch up on what I'd missed; gonna try and watch that whole thing before Sunday. Nice to know there are other Downton fanatics out there! Take care and Happy New Year to you!

Dame Maggie Smith is hilarious! I can't wait to see Shirley McClaine. I am a bit sad - word is that the actor who plays the young heir to Downton is leaving the show. He is moving to NY where he is currently on Broadway.

I'm psyched about the return next week. I too read that Cousin Matthew did not renew his contract. He is in Season 3, just not after that. I also read that the creator is looking to do a back story for Lord and Lady G. I think that will be great. They have hinted at not loving each other right away and then falling/staying madly in love. I enjoy their sense of humor. More Downton coming soon!

ITA Shirley M. will be a hilarious addition to this fabulous cast! Don't go, cousin! :p

2013

What are you looking forward to this year? From workouts, to tv shows, to books, to movies, to vacations, to professional accomplishments. What is on the to-do list that makes you smile? (I do realize that I'm bound to get 25 'CTX' answers.;)) Was there anything you didn't get for Christmas that you plan to buy for yourself?

I'm looking forward to Bunheads coming back, Downton Abbey, and Suits. I also am looking forward to Jon Stewart and Colbert to come back from vacation.
I'm planning on running a 5k this year, losing some weight, getting my strength back. My Mom is going to retire, so thats going to be awesome. We might get to travel a little bit. I didn't get Jillian's Body Revolution (I was leaning that way), but I have to wait until my birthday before I gift myself something that expensive.

Maggie Smith is my favorite to...she just chews the scenery!

Hmmm...I hadn't heard about the defections...it will be interesting to see how that's dealt with, but for now I'm just going to enjoy the new season! :)

Oh, and what in the world is Bunheads? That made me laugh, because that's how my dad used to refer to little old ladies....because when you were driving behind them, you could only see the bun on top of their head! This was a couple decades ago when most 70+ women still usually had their hair long and, well, wore it in a bun on top of their head!

I absolutely love the BEEB (BBC)....I have gotten my husband, kids and even my dad and his wife hooked on Downton!

Looking forward to it!

I, too, am looking forward to the upcoming season. Have to admit that I was disappointed that Lady Mary won over Matthew (poor Lavinia!). Although Lady Mary is supposedly "reformed," I don't care for her. I also didn't dig the story line of Lady Sybil running off with the Irish chauffeur. Regardless, it's still a great show.

I like the downstairs characters best.

Most the BBC shows are excellent. I loved the original Upstairs Downstairs, Prime Suspect, etc. If you are looking for a good one, check out the remake of the Forsythe Saga (2002 version). Damian Lewis is absolutely evil as Soames!

Can't wait for my DVDs to arrive in another weeks time! Season 3 coming right up.....

Great show, wonderful wardrobe, fabulous wigs, excellent drama! Can't wait to see Lord Grantham confess he has lost 'her' fortune!

Can we like either upstairs or downstairs exclusively? They only exist in relation to each other, after all. What you like and perceive in the below stairs relationships is only there because they live to serve others......well, for a few more years more anyway!

Did you ever see Robert Altman's film Gosford Park? Sometimes I think it is even better than Downtown, better cast, a more intricate intertwining of the above and below stairs relationships. Take a gander, see what you think, especially if you are missing Downton. It even has Maggie Smith in it!

Wat I never understand is why everyone insists that the UK is a class-ridden society, but the US isn't! Class is articulated differently perhaps, but it is alive and well.

Damien Lewis as Soames is just about perfect! Loved The Forsyte Saga when I saw it. Maybe time for are-watch in the new year?!!

If only I could get my hands on Homeland season 1....... are we thinking Emmy's for this cast gain?
