doms....week after week.....after week

I have done Butts n Gutts for once a week now for probably over 2 months now except 1 week and every week by day 2 afterwards I'm really sore.

Plus I get mild doms from my upper body workouts as well...every week.

I feel it may be affecting my cardio ability. I couldn't even get through cardio fusion in its entirety this morning. I feel fatigued pretty quickly from any intense cardio lately.

Is it all this doms I get every week that's making me fatigue like this?

I eat clean, veggies and fruits everyday, take vitamins, take super green food pills. I even took a recovery week around 6 weeks ago.

It sounds like your body is asking you for a break. I'm not sure what your training schedule is but you may want to scale off for a week and do some low impact and stretching stuff.

Just to let you know, I do get severe DOMS from B&G as well, every time without fail! I only do it every couple of weeks and switch off with other lower body workouts , and I usually don't get as sore with heavier weight workouts as with B&G. As for it affecting your cardio, I can't really say. Of course it seems like having your blood checked for iron levels and such might be a good idea if this fatigue is pretty new. Just as a precaution. But if that is all fine, I would say that most people who work out get DOMS and it is one of the things that tells us we are working to our max. Maybe you do need to do some extra stretching, especially the days you do heavier weights. If you work out in the morning, even though you stretch after the workout, add another streth session in the evening, even 10 minutes would be good. That might help ease the soreness and help you get through the cardio better. Just a thought based on my own past expreiences.

I wish you well!!

I'm definitely eating enough ...prob 1600-1800 most days.

Mon: Biceps/Triceps and Abs + 20 min cardio
Tues: Chest + 30 min cardio
Wed: B & G
Thurs: Back/Shoulders
Fri: Cardio
Saturday: usually bootcamp

This is my recent rotation.

maybe this will be helpful. B&G gives me serious DOMS for days! for the pain- even before it arrives, i like to make a pineapple smoothie: 1/2 pineapple, a handful of spinach, tangerine, apple and a bit a water to make it smoother. pineapple contains bromelain and seems to help with doms and any inflamation / joint pain you may have as well.

Preventing DOMS

While DOMS is common and annoying, it is not a necessary part of getting into shape. There are many things you can do to prevent, avoid and shorten DOMS.

Here are a few tips:

Warm up thoroughly before activity and cool down completely afterward.
Perform easy stretching after exercise.
When beginning a new activity start gradually and build up your time and intensity over time.
Start a new weight lifting routine with light weights and high reps (10-12) and gradually increase the amount you lift over several weeks.
Avoid making sudden major changes in the type of exercise you do.
Avoid making sudden major changes in the amount of time that you exercise.

Too Late! You are Already Sore.

Here are some tips for treating delayed soreness:

Wait. Soreness will go away in 3 to 7 days with no special treatment.
Avoid any vigorous activity that increases pain.
Do some easy low-impact aerobic exercise - this will increase blood flow to the affected muscles, which may help diminish soreness.
Use the RICE method of treating injuries.
Use gentle stretching om the affected area.
Gently massage the affected muscles,
Try using a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication (aspirin or ibuprofen) to reduce the soreness temporarily, though they won't actually speed healing.
There is some evidence that vitamin C may decrease soreness.
Allow the soreness to subside thoroughly before performing any vigorous exercise.
Don't forget to warm up completely before your next exercise session.
Some pain can be a sign of a serious injury. If your muscle soreness does not get better within a week consult your physician.

DOMS that rarely / never go away definitely sounds like you are lifting heavy enough regularly to take recovery weeks every 4 -5 weeks. I think you have to factor in the poundage factor and if I recall from past posts you lift heavy. P90X (heavy weights) has magic in large part to the 4th week as recovery. Consider taking them more regularly and see if that works. Although feeling DOMS is a great feeling it shouldnt be a constant in the same muscles for a long period of time. Just my thoughts

Thanks,

It sounds like a recovery week may be in order. I think I'll take a few days off with the holiday and lay off weights next week. I'll miss my weights though...:(

An interesting side note: I've heard that there is some evidence that taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication like aspirin or ibuprofen, may hinder strength gains. It may be that the inflammatory response is a vital part of getting gains with strength and endurance.

p90x recovery week on the 4th and 8th is something like
sun core
mon yoga
tues kickbox
wed stretch
thurs core
fri kb
sat yoga

his kb is not as intense as others but still fun

Sally, I hear you. Actually my husband was taking them (as directed) a few years ago and ended up getting an internal bleed from them. After TONS of medical tests and medication to treat the condition, he won't even go NEAR them now! He's still on medication today! I still occasionally take them (like once a month or something), but I'm definitely not as cavalier as I used to be.:) Apparently it's not that uncommon to experience problems, especially if you're on them long term.
