Doing IMAX 1 after a long time...

I've always been an IMAX 2 fan and needless to say, I do this workout often because it remains as challenging as the first time I tried to learn it.

Last weekend I decided to do the first IMAX, after reading posts that said it's harder than IMAX 2. I haven't done IMAX 1 in many months and I'd forgotten how it went but I do understand why many say it's harder. Those plyo jacks in intervals 3 & 4 kill you right away. But the succeeding intervals were fine with me. I didn't feel "murdered" until the last interval where Cathe was flying off the floor -- did she have springs in her shoes? -- while I couldn't feel the lower half of my body.:)

Still, to me IMAX 2 is harder since the blasts of intervals 3, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10 blow me away. I feel like I don't have that much time to recover.

Imho, Imax is tougher because to me, Imax II has the following 'easier' intervals, 1,2,3,4,6,8,10. Imax has fewer 'easier' intervals; 1,3,6,7,9. And to me, the 'tough' intervals in Imax, are tougher than the 'tough' intervals in Imax II. I am impressed that you found the intervals after #4 fine, because to me 8 and 10 are SUPER tough. Oh, the power scissors...

Congrats on making it through such a tough workout!
 
I am so happy that you said that! Every time I do IMAX 2 I think....I don't think this is easier at all! I do think the "hard" intervals in IMAX 1 are more difficult, but I think the total of intervals in 2 are harder over all.

I also think b/c it is fun, some people may think IMAX 2 is easier, but I say NO WAY! It is really tough!!!

I used to think that IMax was the more difficult of the two, hands down. Now, however, I’m realizing that I don’t find one harder than the other anymore. They’re both hard in their own ways. For example, I think what I find so darn hard about IMax (besides those plyo-scissors – youch) is the fact that each interval is so repetitive. Also the warmup is longer which I find to be disctracting – I’m always thinking “let’s get to the real work already!” Imax 2 is hard because I think most of the intervals are longer. Granted, they do provide more variety than Imax, which helps.

I find Imax #2 intervals #5, 7, 8 and 9 to be the most difficult. In IMax the ones I find the most challenging are 3, 4 and 9. I guess I feel like there are more “hard” intervals in Imax 2, but the Imax “hard” intervals are just harder.

In terms of fun – Imax2 can NOT be beat! Love the music and the energy and I feel great after completing it. It's hard to do, but I try to switch between them because I feel I'm getting more benefits that way.
 
For me, another reason Imax is harder than Imax 2 is I'm already pooped at the end of the warm up. For me, that warm up really gets me going. I also love the warm up music.

The Power scissors are a MAJOR point of dread for me in the Imax workout as well as the endless plyo jumps or whatever they're called. And I have to agree that I find the dread factor in Imax to be the repetition of the intervals. They just keep going, and going, and going...kind of like the energizer bunny. I'm pairing half of Imax this week with PUB and PLB. I'm hoping to go all out on 5 intervals at a time...we shall see....

Thanks for all your thoughts. Yes Jillybean, the power scissors... I forgot that one. That makes 4 IMAX intervals that I find hard vs. 6 in IMAX 2 I always struggle through. And all of you who said that the tough intervals in the original IMAX are harder, I agree with all of you. I'm still feeling those plyo jacks and power scissors in my knees three days later, and I think I'll be modifying next time.:) Quality vs. quantity? In any case, I'm glad I have these workouts. Being able to make it through them makes me feel like I can do anything. Except maybe Bootcamp.:7

Man, Bootcamp sucks, huh Pinky?

I feel the same way..give me Imax 1 or 2 anyday, but keep me the h$# away from bootcamp!:)
