doing 2 workouts a day

For those who have done 2 workouts a day to lose weight... Whats the most efficient way to do them to keep the weight coming off steadly? should they be done back to back or should I do one in the morning and another at night? Would I lose quicker with 2 seperate workouts or having them togther?
Would It be better to:
1) work 2 body parts a day, (like in Gym Styles), 2) do alternating upper/body (like Pyramids), or 3) do 2 cardio workouts one day and next day full body (like Power Hour, Muscle Endurance) and the second workout cardio?

I won't be doing much else during the day... I have no kids to chase around so I'm free most the day. The workouts will be most of my activity. I feel I need to start working harder/more.. I have about 20-30 pound to lose and sometimes I won't even lose a pound a week even though I'm watching my diet/calories pretty closely. I would like to finish getting this weight off by the end of the year and hoping working out more (2x a day 5-6 days a week) will help.

This is an interesting question. WOW I wish I had the time to workout two times per day. I remember Oprah also works out twice per day. I think she does cardio in the a.m. and weight training in the p.m. But this was years ago and she may have changed her exercise habbits.

I would like to know what others think...

Sometimes I do cardio in the morning and weights at night. For me, it's due to time management. I don't have enough time in the morning to do both.

On weekends I do 2 workouts a day. I usually do a weight workout in the morning and cardio in the afternoon. I also workout 4 days during the week for 1 hour. I do the 2 workouts a day on weekends to get in my weight work typically. I go to a fitness bootcamp on M, W and F and most of the time we don't do really heavy weight work so I want to make sure I get that in. I really don't do it to lose weight but I have maintained my weight so it might be helping.

I like to do cardio in the morning before breakfast and weights in the afternoon. Sometimes I do a quick abs and or floorwork in the eve. I'll just stay in my regular clothes for that. I find shorter workouts, more often, easier on my body. I also like how it keeps the metabolism going thru-out the whole day. I do believe in mixing up the cardio from floor to step to kickboxing etc during the week. I also try to get one long workout in every couple of weeks when possible. (BM2 for example). I do however take unscheduled days off when needed. Have Fun...and good luck. Peggy

Try reading Cathe's advice to someone who wanted to lose 20-30 lbs. in 3 months. http://69.0.137.118/dc/dcboard.php?...ic_id=35285&mesg_id=35285&listing_type=search

I have been doing 3 days of cardio and 3 days of weights each week for six months or more. Too long, I guess. So I took on the challenge of this rotation to gain strength and endurance and to lose a stubborn tad of fat. I am on my second week of the adjustment phase and my strength and endurance have gone through the roof!:)
I am loving this! It is taking my fitness to a whole new level.

I've tried doing two, hour-long workouts per day before, and this is the first time I'm having any success! I did it last summer, but didn't pay close attention to my diet :( This summer, I work out in the morning 10-11 and then from 5-6. So far, I've been using the treadmill, and trying to get in 6.5 to 7 miles a day (I workout seven days a week, too). It's not as intense as Cathe's workouts, but lately I've had knee issues, so I've been taking it easy re: jumping, etc.

I'm also being reeeaaally careful about food barring last night's pizza }(

I don't have a scale, but my clothes were fitting better after a few weeks, and I can see a difference.

I often do, but it's usually a weight workout and a cardio, and I try to cut back how long I do this. Usually cardio is 30-45 min and a weight split is maybe another 30min or so.

It's not denial. I'm just selective about the reality I accept.

I'm going to be one that says don't do the 2 workouts per day because, IMO, it's real easy to set yourself up for burn-out. You said "I'm watching my diet/calories pretty closely," and I would say, "watch it even closer." There's got to be places where you can cut calories without leaving yourself hungry. Keep a detailed, honest food journal and you'll usually find you can lose weight that way. A real easy way to increase your activity level is to wear a pedometer and try to get 10,000 steps at least 6 days a week. This really works - I did it to lose 15 pounds that has stayed off for over 2 years.

Hi-

When my schedule allows, I like to do 2 workouts a day. Usually its cardio in the morning and then weights later in the day. Normally though its about 30-40 minutes of cardio and 30-40 minutes of weight training per day. For me, it helps me keep my focus on each activity. If I do both back to back, I find I'm just not as fresh and lose my concentration.

An hour of both cardio and strength training 5-6x/week is alot! You may want to do a week of this, and then cut back the following week to let your body recover a bit before hitting it 2 hours/day again.

Good luck, Lynn M.
