Dog-related news for Cathe

I had to share this with you, Cathe, because I knew you would appreciate it. After 2 years of being on a waiting list, I interviewed for and was offered the coveted volunteer position of "puppy socializer" at the Guide Dogs for the Blind School in San Rafael (bay area), California. I've been volunteering there for the past 2 years as a dog walker, and I had my name on the waiting list, and it finally happened! I'm sure Canine Partners has a similar program.

As a puppy socializer, my job will be to provide human contact to the puppies in the interim period after they've left their mom but before they leave to join their puppy raiser (i.e., the wonderful people like you). It's a very hands-on position and you get the privilege of working with the future grads of the program. I'll be doing this every other Saturday. There are people on my team that have been doing this for over 30 years. Once you've been offered the position, you just don't give it up (which is why you spend 2 years on the waiting list!).

Of course, these things never happen at the right time. My husband and I just bought a house and have spent the last 6 weeks managing a remodeling project and doing a lot of cleaning and painting. Spare time is something I don't have right now, but I couldn't pass up this opportunity. I do think we're always capable of handling whatever comes our way, whether we think we can or not.

Hope you and your family are doing well. I'm sure Eric is growing in leaps and bounds. Thanks for listening!

Hi Kimberly!

Congratulations! How nice. I'm happy for you. Aren't animals so much fun? They add so much to our lives. We had a full size standard Collie for 14 years. She was our absolute best friend! (Was wonderful with our kids growing up too.) We have a cat that has been our pal for going on 12 years now. I can relate with you on the house situation. We just sold ours and are in the "planning" stages of building our new condo. Seems to be a lot of stress when you are trying to balance everything in life. I'll be thinking of you and give those dogs a pat on the head for me.

Woof, Woof

Oh thats so great Kimberly. Thanks for sharing that news. What a rewarding position that is. Yes, this program is very similar to CPL. Oh I bet you are on cloud nine right now. To wait so long and finally be an official puppy socializer. Best of luck to you with this fun job. Even though the timing may seem inconvenient right now, I always believe that everything happens for a reason(you can always place a paint brush in those little razor sharp teeth and let the decorating begin

) Please give those little pups a big wet and sloppy kiss from me. Congratulations!
