Does this count as a work out?

I did yard work the other day and I'm still debating whether it counts as a work out. Here's what I did:

Mowed the lawn, non-propelled mower (1 hour)
Planted plants, which involved removing dirt, leveling the ground, mixing in compost and the actual planting (1/2 hour)
Re-seeded the front lawn, which included putting new dirt on bare spots, raking it in, sprinkling seed, putting straw over the seed, rolling the entire lawn (with this 75 pound roller we have, my heart rate was up, that's for sure!) and watering everything in (1-1/2 hours)

I was supposed to run 4.5 miles after that, but I was exhausted.

Do you think I can count that as a work out in my weekly total? Thanks!

Thanks! Now that I look at it written out, what WAS I wondering about?

I just hope the grass seed comes up. It's a never ending battle to get our front lawn looking nice.

IMO, a workout actually compensates for the lack of activity we have in modern life. If we were all active like this on a daily basis, we wouldn't need to workout (except for maybe compensating for muscle imbalances, and doing some flexibility work).

You yard work definitely sounds like a workout to me. And a very 'functional' one! Heck, one hour of mowing with a non-motorized, non-gas-powered lawnmower (which is what I have as well) is a workout all on its own!
