Does it get easier?

I just tried Cardio & Weights for my first time - and as one of my first Cathe videos. Now being that it is part of the intensity series, maybe this is not a good place to start... I made it about 1/2 way through, and I was getting all tripped up with the footwork - but I was definately sweating! Does it get easier? Should I keep going and just modify and aim to get one new move each time? Or should I start with a different video - is Body Blast any more beginner friendly? Right now, I've been taping shows from FitTV and then was planning to put some Cathe things on my Christmas wish list.

I also have a step that is not as long as hers...and it doesn't seem nearly as sturdy. It's one of the ones with 3 different color layers that you can change the height. When I step near either end, it almost pops up on the other end. I think I should invest in a new step - just what my fiance will want to hear - MORE EXERCISE EQUIPMENT!!! }(

Thoughts? Advice?

Thanks much all! Even though I was getting tripped up - it was fun, and I could see how it would feel AWESOME and FUN to do the workout and know the footwork! :D

Amy - don't give up!! Each time you do it, it will get easier. It's just like learning anything, practice, practice, practice! You'll be amazed. Next time you do it, the steps you've already mastered will be easy and then you can put more focus on the ones giving you trouble! :) As far as your step, you need something sturdy. I don't know what kind you're talking about with your current step, but if it feels unsafe you should invest in a better one.

yes, it gets easier! i got C&W 2 weeks ago and i love it! you should just watch it a few times. do the step only premix first. also, sound like your step is very unsafe. you can get the original step (same length as in all videos) at walmart or academy for around $60. also i saw one on ebay today. hope this helps

Hi Amy! Just echoing what the others have already said...it DOES get easier with practice. I considered myself a step klutz when I first got into Cathe...I took it slow...started off with Mega Step Blast (oldie of Cathe's) that is much slower-paced and easier choreography...then tackled C&W, first with just tacking a segment at a time on at the end of my regular workouts...then tackling just the Timesaver Step premix...was no time at all till I had it! Same with her other step workouts. Imax 2 and Step Blast are just SO much fun...just love both of these to death! I'm so glad I conquered my fear of my "klutziness", LOL...I'm addicted to step now! Good luck...just take it slow...you'll definitely get it and have fun with it! :)

Definitely spring for a new step. It's a wise investment, and lasts a long time. I've had mine for over 10 years, and it's still going strong! You can also use it as a bench.

You may be able to find a better price, but www.fitnesswholesale.com carries steps and risers. I'd also do a search under "Club Step sale" to see if you can find any on sale.

The workout WILL get easier! I always preview workouts before I do them, to mentally get myself prepared, and to check out any tricky moves. When I see one, "mini-me Kathryn" does the steps in my head! I sometimes have to count out the beats (1-8) and see how the moves fit into them. Usually, when I try a Cathe step workout for the first time, I get about 85% of it the first time around, after previewing.

It also helps to do some of Cathe's earlier workouts, as she adds new moves with each one, but still keeps some of the older ones.

Yeah!!! - I just got a new step - apparently the same one she uses in the videos on Ebay for $31 plus shipping! I feel like I hit the jackpot! It also came with the Cathe video All Step. Woo HOO!! :) I can't wait to get it and start trying again.

Thanks for the tips!

Amy:D :D :D

That's so funny, I was just going to suggest checking on Ebay! Good for you Amy...you're going to love it. Besides, it doubles as a weight bench. Be sure & remind your DF of that, & of the money you saved!;-)

Yes, it does get easier. Believe me. Just keep modifying, as much as you need to & for as long as you need to. One thing I had to learn was to not let the advanced fitness of many people on this wonderful forum intimidate me. I wanted to be as good as them!
Well, maybe someday I will be but it will have to be in my own time & my own way.

Good luck, & have fun!
Ruth:)
