Does anyone workout twice a day?

Hey all,

I am finding it hard to fit in all the workouts, and I find that I prefer to do cardio and my weight training takes a back seat, so to speak.

So, do you do your cardio in the morning, and then in the evening tack on your weight training, or vice versa? Is this do-able?

Thanks in advance,

Tammy

Yes, its do able, I do it many times a week... Rhonda
I usually workout an hr in the morning, and at night any where from 30 minutes to an hr...............

my work is very flexible so on the days i have off i'll do cardio at 4 pm,eat, and then weights/abs/ at 8 pm then get ready for bed. i have discovered that i cannot do any cardio until i have absolutely no fluid in my body which is one reason i dont do mornings. during the workout i drink tons of water.

Hi Tammy....yes its doable. On Mondays when I am off work I usually do a run in the morning and then weights in the afternoon. I do this usually any time I get an extra day off...:)...Carole

I am going to start trying this mid next week when I get back from California. I am going to try it 1-2 days a week to "shock" my body.

Thanks for the info girls...

I am going to give this a try. My goal is to tack on a second workout with weights 3 nights a week. Hey, it may even keep me out of trouble!

Tammy

I am going to start this soon, perhaps Monday. Cathe put up a rotation not too long ago about how to lose 20-30 lbs in 3-4 months. It said to start out with 4 cardios/2 weights and increase it gradually to prevent injury.

How are you planning your rotation?

I usually get my cardio in during my lunch break at work. I go to the gym and either walk on the treadmill, use the bike or elliptical for 45 minutes. When the weather is nice I prefer to walk outside and usually walk 3.5 miles. In the evenings I do my weight training at home.

I work out in the mornings either cardio or weights. In the evening I will do cardio if I did strength in the morning or a nice yoga/stretch tape if I did cardio in the morning.

There are some evenings I don't do anything because I don't feel like it or we don't go straight home. I don't worry too much because I know I got the "main" workout done in the morning.

Yes, sometimes it's the only way I can get what I want in a week. If I need to trim up quickly, it what works for me.

Those of you that work out twice a day. Do you ever feel you are neglecting other parts of your lives, like DH or kids? My work day from the time I leave the house until I get home is approx 10 hours, then there's dinner and bonding time with DH and my pets. I do my exercise from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30. I just don't know how I would keep balance in my life working out twice a day. Bonding time with DH and my pets (walking dogs every evening) is very important to me.

I compliment you on your dedication but do you feel like you have a good balance in your life working out twice a day? Just curious.

Not at all, my hubby works out with me when I work out at night, and my kids well our 22 yr old doesn't live with us, and our 18 yr old has his own life but still lives here.... guess I answered your question ...... Rhonda :7

candi...

I workout twice a day, but I'm a SAHM. There's no way that I could fit two workouts in my day if I was working. My first workout is early in the morning when my older kids are getting up and ready for school. My second workout is in the evening - DH watches the kids while I run or spin. I'm able to get a lot of chores during the day with my toddler while my kids are in school - laundry, shopping, some cleaning , etc.

Your schedule is fine - I don't think you should compromise your quality time in the evening if it is important to you and nurtures your marriage! Plus, you can count walking the dogs as extra exercise!:)

I've been slipping in an extra 1/2 hr. cardio a couple times a week (not bicycling regularly yet due to weather) as soon as I get home from work. DH doesn't get home from work for 1 1/2 hrs. after I do so no time is taken from him. I also work out before he gets up in the morning so no time taken there either. Guess all he sees is the exercise equipment laying around. Better that than the credit card bills ;-) Actually, after 25 years of marriage he's pretty used to me being active and always doing something. Our secret to a long marriage is that we let each other have our own hobbies/passions/space, but we make the time to do some things together.

I also use the time after work to preview new DVD's. Soon the weather and time will be good enough to ride my horse after work or cycle. Looking forward to that. I'm really an outdoors girl.

Thanks for the answers!

My husband is a runner so he will run while I walk the dogs. He could run our one dog but the other is a senior and I don't think she could keep up with him like she used to...it would be hard on her joints.

Sometimes I think I COULD add a second workout maybe a couple of times a week if I really wanted to but a little voice in my head says it could turn out to be an obsession and something I don't want to get in the habit of doing. I'm not ready or willing to take that plunge I guess. Just seems like an hour a day should be enough!

Well, maybe after I retire in about 5 years I will have the luxury of more time :) .

The main reason I add on something extra at night is too keep my metabolism going thru the night...... another reason, night is the only time hubby has get any exercise in........ and he seems to like having a partner to do it with :7 ... Rhonda

It really depends on how much time I have in a day. When I have more time, I'm usually more active. For instance today, this afternoon I will do Cathe cardio and then this evening I am going to play tennis with my DH.

Hi Candi. When I work out in the evenings I take my 3yr old son upstairs with me. He will either bring his cars and play or he joins in with me with his 2 lb weights. LOL

I don't feel like I'm neglecting time with DH because he is ALWAYS in the garage working on his race car.

Dana,

That's so cute! When my daughter was a toddler she wasn't real keen on playing with her own toys without Mommy's attention. I think that's great :7
