Does anyone workout twice a day?

I don't feel like I am neglecting anyone. It is hubby and me and we carpool to/from work (about an hour each way) and while he is on the computer and dinner is cooking I go do something downstairs.

I've done it lots of times - mainly breaking up cardio and weights. Cardio in the AM to a DVD workout and weights in the evening while watching taped TV shows. Or on the weekends the same way. I'm neglecting anybody 'cause I'm home, aren't I? Anybody that wants to can check to see that I'm there. That's no different than having your nose in a TV while sitting on a couch. Who's neglecting who then?!!!

Cakebaker,

Your post sounds defensive.

Just trying to see how people work out twice a day and keep a balance in their lives... :) .

I've been doing this for the last couple of years but only 2 times per week. I'm in TaeKwonDo and have classes T,Th & Sat. So I do strictly cardio on M,W,F and strength train on T&Th in the morning then take karate class in the evening. Sometimes I'll lift again on Sat but only if I'm not too wiped out from sparring and pad strikes. Sundays are rest days but I somethimes do yoga or stretch. It has worked well for me but I think it really comes down to listening to your body and taking more rest days if needed.

I think you need to do what ever you have to to get your workouts squeezed into the day. That might mean one hour long workout or 4 - 15 min workouts. That (what is it?) ?spark? training is based on several 10 minute a day workouts isn't it? Do what ever works for you.

My problem is that my body takes at least 15 minutes to warm-up before I can get serious about the workout. So for me one long workout is best. Otherwise if I split the workout in 2 I have spent a half hour of the day just warming up. If I can't afford at least an hour I'll do a just walk or brief cardio. Weights or intense cardio take some serious warm up time though!

Sarcastic yes, defensive - no. I just find it amusing that women are so afraid they are neglecting someone if they work out at home! Please! We are so riddled with guilt about everything.

Hi Tammy.

I don't do this right now but may consider doing so down the line. Sounds like an effective way to do with cardio and weights in one day since you have time to recover from one before moving on to the other....I'm sure it allows you to push harder in both work outs with out straining or overdoing it.

Have a great work out!

Cakebaker,

I like balance in my life for my physical and mental health. I work out an hour in the morning between 5:30 and 6:30 a.m. I sometimes think I may like to try to work out twice and see if there are improvements but I guess I don't feel that strongly about it because I haven't taken action yet. If I decided to add a workout or two, my husband would support me. He's better than most in that department.

My relationship with DH is very important to me and him. We spend a lot of time in the evenings just talking about things and relaxing. I don't know if it would be worth the trade off. I wondered how others integrated a second work out and keep a healthy balance...that's all :) .

Aww that is so sweet! How long have you guys been married? I can't believe you still enjoy talking to each other! :7

I got Cakebaker's response though (and the joke LOL). Maybe it's my own personal problem b/c exercise is such a huge part of my life that I wouldn't be willing to sacrifice it for a man. I guess my answer might be different if there were kids involved, but my only pressure is making sure I have QT for my pups. :)

Maximus,

We'll be married five years on March 25. He is my best buddy also. We work at the same place and also eat lunch together every day. We really enjoy each other's company. After such a horrible first marriage, I know when I've got a good thing. I guess my struggle is, the trade off of exercising versus spending time with him in the evening because I've already done an hour workout in the morning.

My dogs are covered, of course. They get their 30-45 minute walk every evening and tons of attention from both of us :).

Ahhh it's #2. That explains it. #1 was an absolute nightmare for me too. I don't plan on doing it again but you've given me a small ray of hope. :)

Good for you for walking the dogs. I just send mine out into the backyard to bark at the firemen. Not that the spoiled brats don't get a ton of attention in other ways.

Me and hubby have been married almost 24 yrs, and in the last 6 months we have gotten along so much better, for one thing better sex that helps.... we do almost everything together, but we don't work together.....
He has even started exercising with me, doing taebo or walking, and he wants to start up a weight lifting program....
We get along great, and he loves what exercise has done for my body, so he doesn't mind the at all, he thinks it is great..... Rhonda:* :p

I've been working out twice a day for years...I find it's the only thing that keeps me sane before and after work. I'm a cardio junkie, so I do that in the a.m., then do weights 3-4 times/week at night, after work. I'm serious about the sanity, part, too--work and life can be intensely stressful and/or depressing at times, and through trial and error I've found that exercise is just about the only thing that lets me turn all of that off. I don't find that my workouts cut into my time with my bf--he works or plays on the computer, plus cooks dinner and talks to me while I workout at night; he sleeps in in the mornings.

Candi,

I have been reading your posts with some interest - I noticed you just turned 50 and I will be 50 this year, too. But I too like to workout 2 times a day, too.

I have ten children, 8 of which still live at home, and yes, there are times I feel guilty - I think maybe I should be doing other things - but I do not work outside the house and I have been homeschooling for 12 years. I workout in the morning before they are awake and then I do weight training when my husband gets home.

My dear husband doesn't mind for he says he reaps the benefits. He plays hockey two nights a week plus takes 4 of our boys to their hockey games all weekend.

We have been married for 30 years and still consider ourselves best friends - we can't keep our hands off each other - we still hold hands and put much effort into our relationship.

So, I know what you mean - it is great to hear that you cherish your relationship so much and you are aware of how important that is. It sounds to me like you are very balanced - we should all care about giving to each other - you work all day of course you want to spend time with your hubby.

If your hudsband doesn't mind even one night a week - go for it - my husband likes to watch sports - so I love it when there is a gsame on then I don't feel as guilty. Besides, I am still able to keep up on the laundry and housework and all their schooling and my husband loves to cook - so I don't need to cook dinners. I absolutely love that.

Iknow you've already had a lot of feedback here, but, I just can't help it I must put in my two cents!
For a time I added my muscle building workouts on three nights a week in addition to my morning cardio. And, I definatly had a big boost in my weight loss, and body improvement, toning, strength, etc. It was great! But, unfortunatly too hard to maintain for my life. My children are little and I work outside of my home. When my life shifts I hope to increase my excercise routine. What have you decided to do?
