Does anyone think MIC is harder than the Imax's??

Hi everyone,

I just did MIC for the first time and OMG I thought I was going to drop dead!! I mean the Imax's have recovery time at least. I had such a hard time finishing this workout. Does anyone else think this is as hard as the Imax's??

Aila:)

Oops I probably should have put this in videos/comments...

I agree - MIC is the killer workout. I think MIC is harder than the IMAX's. The IMAX's have recovery time and are not as long. I really don't mind the IMAX's but I have to be in the right frame of mind to do MIC.

I still cannot get through all the cardio in MIC. I can get through each IMAX, but it's tough.

Hi Aila!

I can not do MIC hi-lo without breaks let alone the entire workout. I haven't done the whole video in years. I recently did the hi-lo section only and I thought I was going to die. I can not keep up with her. The pace is so fast! Hey, maybe I'll challenge myself and do MIC tomorrow! :)

I can make it through the whole thing but not with nearly the form Cathe and the crew are using. In particular, by the time we get to the high kicks in the hi lo, my kicks are pretty feeble. This is definitely tougher, and has way more impact, than either Imax, IMHO.

Try doing the warm-up first, then the step section and then the hi/lo. You'll be surprised that you actually can get through the whole workout.

I agree that MIC is harder. It is relentless and long. I have to be feeling reaaaaaaly brave to do it.

I think doing the step before the hi/lo is a really good idea. I don't do a lot of hi/lo, so the step portion would get me nice and warm for that. I will try that next week. Thanks for the suggestion!!

Aila:)

IMHO, MIC feels more intense than the I-Maxes because it is more of a steady-state cardio thing with no recovery periods like the I-Maxes have, because the hi/lo segment involves a lot more sustained impact because the hi/lo segment is faster AND because the workout as a whole is longer duration. The step segment of MIC, for me, is very moderate in intensity compared to the I-Maxes. Pound for pound, for the same period of time I find I-Max 1 more intense.

I like the following mish-moshes incorporating MIC hi/lo:

"Hi/Lo Heaven":
MIC hi/lo warm-up and hi/lo segment;
CTX 10-10-10 hi/lo segment
Boot Camp cardio only premix

"Hi/Lo Hell }( "
Circuit Max warm-up and hi/lo segments (fast-forwarding thru the first compound resistance cycle)
MIC hi/lo HIGH portion (begins at 19:00 minutes)
CTX 10-10-10 hi/lo segment
Boot Camp cardio only premix

You're quite mad, you know.

RE: To JuneMom:

You have no idea.

Recently I upkicked I-Max 1 as follows:

I-Max 1 without recovery intervals after Interval #2 (and extending out all of the intervals by 8-16 reps; have been doing that for quite awhile now); AND

Boot Camp cardio only premix immediately after as a dessert.

Smilin' through my tears . . .

Yes, Aila. That goes for me too.

It took me a good year of doing the MIC hi/lo section at least once a week (sometimes twice) before I felt like I wasn't going to drop dead when I did it. Then, it actually became one of my favorite cardios. It also helped my cardio endurance tremendously. When my husband and I went on a cruise last year, I was able to run on the ship's treadmill for 40-45 minutes. It must have been because I was doing MIC and IMAX regularly because I am not a runner.

Hi Candi,

I would like to run eventually. My sister tried to get me to run last year and I just couldn't keep up. I was also just quitting smoking at that time, so my breathing wasn't so great. I know the Imax's helped my cardio endurance, so between those and MIC}( maybe I will do better running this year.

Hey Amazon Annette...

I have a purely logistical question for you. What do you do, workout with your DVD remote in your hand and just FF past the recoveries? And how do you add on 8 to 16 add'l reps -- pause the DVD player or rewind, or what?

Mind you, this is all PURELY academic because I concur in the widespread albeit loving assessment that you are one buff but absolutely certifiable woman. :)

RE: Hey Amazon Annette...

My beloved Kathy S:

I don't hold the DVD in my hand to fast-forward thru the I-Max 1 recoveries; I extend the interval out at the END of the interval (doing interval work while Cathe is doing recovery work), then grab a belt of water, grab the remote and hit the "NEXT" button to get me to the next aerobic segment; that's how the I-Max 1 DVD is chaptered, to begin at the beginning of each aerobic interval.

For the Circuit Max Hi/Lo Hell mish-mosh, I do have to grab the remote at the end of the first hi/lo segment, hit the fast-forward button and keep an eye peeled for when the resistance cycle is about to end; you only drop about 5-10 seconds of work that way.

I have a Sony 5-disc DVD player, and it's been a miracle for my cardio fitness, because I can just zip-skip to the next disc which is marked to go into an intense cardio segment without my heart rate dropping into the toilet.

MIC (in my opinion) is twice as hard as the IMAX's. Definitely the hardest workout ever!! I can do this whole thing without modifying but I am completely and totally wiped out by the end. All I want to do is lay down on the floor when I'm done!!
