Does anyone have this problem?!

As I stated before I'm losing weight slowly but surely, the goal is 35 pounds of which I have lost ten. However, I am having a heck of a time reducing the thigh area, and I'm afraid to bulk it up with too much weight, any sugestions on how to reduce this very difficult area? thanks in advance for any suggestions, Anie

Spot reduction is, unfortunetly, not possible. I would actually focus on weight training that area since the muscles in the thigh are large and will help you burn more calories overall. Once you get to your goal weight wouldn't you rather see defined, shapely thighs than slender shapeless thighs? Running and cycling are both great for the legs (and glutes).

congratulations on your weight loss - it takes so much will power, especially this time of year. Good luck with your goal:)

Anie, I tend to gain a lot of muscle in my short legs. Truthfully, don't be afraid to put that muscle on your legs. You can stand to put some muscle on legs. & that same muscle will burn a lot more calories than any skinny fat. I guarantee you. Just give it a try. Also, some people swear by overtrainig with weights. HIgh reps, low weights.

Hi Anie,

I don't have the problem with the legs (mine is the upper body ~sigh~) but Cathe has said...and I reluctantly agree...that running will lean you out better than anything else. ~sigh~:p

I just wish I could lose some weight period. I've been at it a week...not dieting too hard and mainly working out and I've lost a total of 1/2 lb. I keep telling myself I'm building muscle and that's why I'm not losing weight, but it sure is frustrating. I think you lose weight equally all over your body, though.

Weight training for your legs will help, but as others have said - you can't spot reduce. You can firm them up, though, and if you have bulkier legs, you may want to do lower weight and higher reps. Leaner Legs is a good one for that. Actually, any of the lower body workouts are good.

Dear Anie: It is very difficult for women to bulk up. Nature did not create the female body like the man's and if you push yourself on the legs you are likely to develop lean muscle mass - not bulk. You will have to go very, very intensive on weights to bulk up. I think you should not worry about bulking up. On the other hand building lean muscle mass will ensure you expend more calories even while at rest. The excees weight on your thighs will go with time. If you tend to store fat there rather than everywhere else, that may be the spot where you will likely see results last. I have the same problem around my Abs. I lost 12 kg over a year ago and have kept it off. My Abs were the slowest to respond and the last of my body parts to "get into shape". I still dont have a bikini flat stomach (does not show under most clothes) but my waist is in far,far better shape than I had ever dared to hope. All the best and have patience. Vee.
