Does anyone have a AWFUL boss?

I swear I am going to pop my lid any day. Now, don't get me wrong. She is not hard on her workers but she has no class anymore. My dog as more.
I am into hairsytling, but I work part-time with a airline, which I love.I have also been offered a job at a bank...but it just seems to quiet for me.I like to be up and moving, nosie around me all the time.If I have quietness,I fall asleep, wouldn't look very good, would it?:) Head down on my desk:)
Anyway,my boss took over this place 3 yrs ago.Since then she has gotten into gambling. She must take money from the business to play the machines. She doesn't open her bills anymore(much less pay them), there are envelopes piled high, its like she thinks they will disappear if they don't get opened.People are calling her for money all of the time. Her attitude as driven many people away. She doesn't do her hair anymore, she looks puffy and swollen. No make-up.Not very professional.
I have been waiting 2 monthes for my vacation pay.I finally asked her for it yesterday(todays pay day)and she doesn't know how she is going to come up with the money. She doesn't even know how she is going to pay us.
I personnally think that this place is going to be shut down anytime.Which doesn't really bother me.Its easier then quitting actually.
Not to mention, her daugther is doing the hairstlying course and will be working with us.To sum it up,2 bit*@es put together.Should make for an even better enviroment.
Anyway,I am getting out of there.I am giving myself the rest of the year to work there and then I am going to dig my heels in.This place is bringing me down.I am an upbeat person and usually very happy. But when I have to go into that place, my heart sinks.
I think I have wrote about this a few times before but it as gotten alot worse.I can't beleive that her family and friends don't ask her why she looks such a mess. She is a hairdresser. She doesn't even look like she showers.
Enough rambling...anyone else every have to deal with a tough situation?
Lori:)

I can relate--I actually adore my boss personally but our work habits are so different. He's a last minute, spur of the moment, get things done by the seat of his pants type of guy. I'm a planner/organizer & usually meet deadlines a week in advance. He's habitually late, I'm punctual to a fault. I return calls/messages w/in 24 hours, he returns them w/in a month.

Problem is, the stuff he doesn't take care of usually comes to my desk. So it can be really frustrating at times. There are nights I leave here when I think my head's gonna explode. If I didn't like the guy so much I'd have been outta here long ago.

Hi Lori! May I be so bold as to ask why would you continue to work there if your not getting paid? You said your still waiting for your vacation pay & your boss doesn't know how she's going to pay her staff. If I were you, I would take the job at the bank (just as a supplementation) or look for another job more to your liking. I'm sorry to hear about your troubles especially this time of the year. Lori things happen for a reason. Maybe this is the sign telling you to get out now something wonderful will happen for you. I wish you luck! Let me know how everything turns out. Kathy:D

I used to work for the worst man I'd ever met in my entire life.

First off as far as hygiene goes:
He was 5'8" about 400 lbs and REFUSED to bathe or shower or brush his teeth or comb his hair. He wore the same clothes week after week after week. Not even his wife could get him to clean ANYTHING. He stunk so bad you had to hold your breath when you were near him.

He shoved food into his mouth and ate like a baby would. He would get crumbs on his shirt at lunch meetings and pick them off his shirt and eat them. He would eat anybody's leftovers on the table. Once he even drank a man's leftover Au Jus from a french dip! He smacked and made awful sounds while he was eating and slurped pepsi and coffee all day.

As far as "ethics:...he had none.
He cussed at everyone, screamed and yelled at everyone, wanted to be waited on hand and foot. Put all of the company's expenses he could on his personal credit card and then used the free miles to take trips for his FAMILY. Put any and every meal he could on his expense voucher, lied on his expense vouchers. He would stare down your top if given the chance, try to tell you about his sex life with his wife...

Finally after a few years, I'd had it and found a new job. Two weeks later, the board of directors showed up with security and fired him and escorted him out!

The only reason I stayed so long was that 1. I got combat pay to work for him $12,000/year more than any other exec. asst. in the company and 2. I had been in the work comp field prior to that and 3 of the companies I worked for had folded and my resume looked pitiful.

Gosh Lori - your boss sounds like she could be "sick"

Not SICK as "in the head" but sick "health" wise.

No excuse for bad behaviour true!!!!!!! but she doesnt sound a well woman. To change so dramatically like that........makes you wonder whats going on.

Geez Colleen - "thats the boss from hell"

Now he DOES sound "sick in the head"

Yuck Yuck Yuck is all I can say and you stayed employed there for "a few years"? I would have been asking for $24,000/year MORE to even let that man "talk" to me.

Its a shame you "felt" you had no choice - thats a tough one - but Im glad your in a new position now.

:)

We get paid but every two weeks she makes it sound as if she doesn't have any money to pay us. I got some of my vacation pay but her books were at the accounants office and she didn't know how much vacation pay I was suppose to get.
She told me then that the books are still at the same place and she hasn't gotten them done b/c she doesn't have the money to pay for it.I MIGHT get the rest of my pay tomorrow.I seriously doubt that we will get a christmas bonus.
I feel sorry for her at times but when you start out in a business you can't be spending money, taking trips, handing out money to your kids and paying their bills. It was like she thought there was no limit.I also think her son stole alot of money from her as well.
She probably is sick.Depressed would be the word. She barely talks to her costumers anymore.
Every year we go out for christmas dinner and she pays for everything. This year we aren't doing anything.
Its sad b/c I loved the way the place use to be.When it was busy and everyone was happy. But she screwed it up.The places is totally changed. It use to be a fun place to work, but now its just blah. And I hate blah!
Colleen-you had quite the boss as well.Mine is not that bad (yet). He sort of sounds like someone my DH use to work with.He was huge, dirty and a theif.Prehaps it was the same guy:)

I don't know if this will make you feel better, but I have two bosses (both attorneys) - one male, one female - and they are married. The female shows up around 10:15 everyday, the male shows up usually around 1pm, if he shows up at all. They live one block from the office, so we are still not sure how it can take them that long to get to work. : )
The male wears the same outfit every single day (and I do mean the SAME outfit, EVERY day), all week long. He has awful, awful dandruff, picks his nose, picks his ears, passes gas LOUDLY, and stares at you. He also likes to "tuck his shirt" in the front of his pants, and then leave his hand there (he must forget it's there, I'm sure - NOT!) The female is apparently oblivious to this, as she does live AND work with the man.
The only UP side to working here is the benefits are AWESOME and they are pretty lenient on when you want to take time off.
However, it is a challenge to get through every day when the people you work for have manners worse than that of a 5 year old.
However, if they were not PAYING me, I would be out of there so fast their heads would spin!!!!
Anyone need a paralegal?? ;)

Hi Lori -

After putting up with a difficult (putting it mildly) boss for over two years, I woke up one day and told my husband that I just couldn't go back there anymore. That Monday I turned in my resignation. I was and still am excited about this decision and have never looked back with regret. This happened two weeks ago. If you can financially get out from under the situation you are in, DO IT! Life is too short. I hope I never have to work for someone like that again. It colored my whole life. It's not worth it.

My two cents.

Wow, your story sounds just like the one I got out of about a year ago. Except it wasn't gambling, it was drugs. I worked for a salon as a nail tech and my cousin and one of her friends owned the salon. My cousins friend started taking money from the salon, from the cash drawer, you name it, he took it. By the time my cousin found out about it, they were broke. Very sad as they were really good friends when they started the salon.

Needless to say, the salon is no more and he is so hooked on drugs right now we're all just waiting to see him name on the obituary page.

Good luck to you, you will find another salon to work in.
