Does anyone else have this problem?

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if any of you find it hard (or even impossible) to sleep when you have worked out REALLY hard that day...whether it is in the morning or the evening. For example, Insanity/Asylum/STS hard. I feel like my heart rate is still sky high, but when I take my pulse it's at it's normal resting rate (about 47 bpm). Yet, on nights where I don't feel like this, my pulse is exactly the same. The doctor says that if anything exercise should HELP me sleep. However, I really do see a correlation between my HARD exercises and the nights where I struggle to sleep. Does anybody have any experience of this, or any advice on how to stop the exercise having this effect on me?

Sometimes this happens to me, but not lately... When I am wide awake at bedtime, I like to drink Tazo Rest tea. It has valerian root in it, and that helps calm you. It also has rose petals and citrusy herbs so it tastes really yummy! The tea, followed by a hot shower and a nice book at bedtime really make me sleep so much easier!

I have the same problem. I feel all "keyed up" and can't quiet my brain. I find a hot shower and calming tea (I like Sleepytime by Celestial Seasonings), as Stephanie suggested, helps a lot, as well as reading before bed. I have a very difficult time falling asleep if I'm on the computer at all before trying to sleep, so that may be something to avoid if you're doing that.

My husband has trouble falling asleep, I didn't really think that it could be related to his workouts. I will definitely make the tea for him. I love Sleepytime and always keep a box in the house. I hope that doesn't make him have to wake up to use the bathroom though!

I'm going to keep track of when he has trouble and see if it's related to his workout intensity. I haven't heard of that before, but it could be possible that it's mentally stimulating even much later in the day.

I did read a study recently that using a screen (tv or computer) before bed is a bad idea. Like MKEMom, I read myself to sleep. It's the only thing that distracts me from planning in my head...

Thank you for your replies. I will definitely try some tea. I am at University, and I spend the whole day in the library reading, so I find that reading before I go to bed doesn't relax me. However, I will give it another try, in combination with some herbal tea.

Thank you all for your advice
